The role

The role is as a Senior Systems Engineer; creating, monitoring, customising, managing and supporting Androgogic's  network systems and applications. This is a permanent full (38hrs/week) predominately working from any defense base in Australia and otherwise from home within the Androgogic Systems Team. To find your closest base please use this link ) .The Systems team at Androgogic is responsible for:

  • Monitoring, maintaining and patching the underlying stack for Androgogic's SaaS applications infrastructure.
  • Automating the installation of operating systems and configuring them to the requirements of particular application servers. This includes researching those requirements for new educational technology or business applications.
  • Managing backup, business continuity and data integrity functions.
  • Undertaking all security related tasks required by the policies, processes and tools in place at Androgogic. Keeping a motivated, proactive approach to security improvements.
  • Selecting and purchasing all network and systems related hardware/software including ongoing maintenance of vendor relationships and service contracts.
  • Liaising with the Software Engineering Team on deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, patching, etc.
  • Undertaking tasks and managing projects as directed within the systems and networks sphere arising from client projects and strategic business requirements.
  • Providing systems and networks perspectives on strategic decision making, selection of internal systems, client proposals and other business matters requiring system and networking expertise.
  • Being a key part of the engineering response team for system, network and other troubleshooting (through to DR if required)

To undertake ongoing training in and awareness of, and comply with the policies and procedures of the Androgogic IMS (Integrated Management System)

Primary systems engineer for the onsite customer-premises systems for the Department of Defence, including business hours and out of hours work (suitably managed via TOIL to fit within an FTE role)

About you

  • You have a current NV1 AGVSA or higher Government Clearance, or have the ability to achieve such a clearance in short order (e.g. one is currently in process, or one can be quickly reactivated)
  • You live within a short (e.g. 45 minutes or less) commute from an Australian Defence base, and can spend 3-5 days/week on base
  • You have excellent security awareness and practices.
  • You have good communication skills.
  • You are capable of diagnostic and network troubleshooting, tracing, IP management and monitoring.
  • You have a preference for autonomy within a managed team.
  • You have a strong work ethic with the ability to self-motivate, prioritise, be proactive and have good time management.
  • You can independently use online forums and other resources to research, troubleshoot and self-teach
  • You can work after hours from time to time for deployments/scheduled outages including being rostered for alert notifications after hours
  • You are a self directed, independent thinker with a demonstrable track record of delivering effective results
  • You have demonstrated strong discipline working or studying independently from home
  • You are comfortable working as part of a tight knit but fully remotely distributed team over technologies such as Slack, Zoom, Teams, Google Apps, MS365 and other remote technologies

Your experience

  • You have system administration experience of at least 2 years
  • You have knowledge and experience in Microsoft Azure systems
  • You have strong linux/unix command line experience
  • You have experience with the traditional LAMP stack and Tomcat Java environment
  • You have experience and are capable of scripting (esp. Powershell, bash, Go, Python, etc).

It would also be great, but not mandatory, if:

  • You have skills and/or experience with ceph, dnf/rpm package management, puppet, and terraform technologies.

Some things to note

  • In order to apply for this position, you must either have a current AGSVA Government Clearance at NV1 or above, or have the ability to achieve such a clearance in short order (e.g. reactivation of a previous clearance, or being in progress for a current clearance request with AGSVA).
