The Role

As Head of Children and Family, you'll lead the development, commissioning, and production of the ABC's Children's and Family programming slate.

Reporting to the Director, Screen, you'll shape and deliver a forward-thinking, audience-first strategy for ABC TV's Children's and Family content. You'll foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and quality storytelling that resonates with audiences across Australia.

Key to your success will be cultivating strong creative partnerships with the local and international independent production community. You'll manage content budgets and allocate resources to deliver distinctive, high-quality programming—on time and within scope.

As a senior leader, you'll also play a key role in championing the ABC's values—Aim High, Think Differently, Take Ownership, and Deliver Together—while mentoring and inspiring a high-performing team.

About You

You're a seasoned content leader with a deep understanding of children's and family programming across multiple genres and formats. You bring a proven track record in commissioning, developing, and producing original content that engages, entertains, and informs.

Your strengths lie in your ability to work creatively with ideas, concepts, and scripts—driving projects from inception to screen with editorial confidence and creative vision. You've successfully influenced development processes and outcomes at a senior level, and bring a strong editorial instinct paired with commercial and strategic nous.

An empowering leader and trusted collaborator, you have extensive experience managing and developing high-performing teams. You excel in stakeholder engagement and bring finely tuned communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills—within both internal teams and the broader creative and production sectors, locally and internationally.

Your industry knowledge and strong network of creative and business partners ensure you can guide and shape ABC's Children and Family slate for today's audiences—and those of tomorrow.
