Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Kimberley Schools Project (the Project) is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Education, Catholic Education Western Australia, the Association of Independent Schools Western Australia and the Department of Regional Development and Primary Industries. The Project is designed to accelerate and intensify existing strategies to address low education outcomes in the Kimberley and underpins broader economic and social development in the region.

The Project has four key components (pillars):

  • Targeted teaching – evidence-based teaching strategies, quality materials and frequent measurement of achievement.
  • Early years - community initiatives that build on and improve existing services and engage families as first teachers through the KindiLink initiative.
  • Regular attendance – community partnerships to deliver strategies that respond to drivers of non-attendance.
  • Community engagement – development with the community of extended learning programs and related initiatives. Support includes coaching and advice for school leaders and teachers around building and sustaining positive school-community partnerships, and the Two-way Science initiative.

This pool of Program Coordinators seeks to fill roles primarily addressing the early years and community engagement pillars of the Project.

Roles will be based in either Broome, Kununurra or Fitzroy Crossing, and will involve travel to remote school communities.

The Role
Program Coordinators - Engagement provide educational leadership to schools and communities, encouraging school staff, parents and the community to share ownership of students' education. Using effective change strategies, they lead schools and communities to accept and develop opportunities for improving educational outcomes across the Project's pillars of early years and community engagement.

Program Coordinators – Engagement supporting early years learning do so by demonstrating an understanding of effective early years practices, including Abecedarian Approach Australia, and an appreciation and understanding of the challenges in teaching in regional and remote schools. They model excellent teaching and provide coaching and mentoring in the KindiLink program.

Program Coordinators - Engagement supporting community engagement do so through providing advice for school leaders, teachers and AIEOs on building and sustaining positive school-community partnerships. This includes supporting the implementation of Two-way Science, on-Country excursions and integrated programs of learning alongside cultural knowledge holders.

We are seeking applicants with an outstanding work ethic, a desire to learn and a commitment for high individual and team performance. A willingness to assist in the design and delivery of Professional Learning is also desirable.

Applicants do not necessarily require expertise across all 4 pillars but will need to demonstrate their understanding of how all 4 pillars interrelate and how their particular skillset will add value to the Project.

Successful applicants to the pool will have knowledge and prior experience in KindiLink and/or Two-way Science and/or co-designing school-community partnerships.
