About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Commercial Finance, this senior leadership role provides strategic financial oversight across the rolling stock portfolio. It partners closely with the Chief Rolling Stock Officer to deliver commercial and financial advice that supports operational decision-making. The role is responsible for driving labour cost analysis through the implementation of workforce utilisation and efficiency metrics and reporting, managing Bills of Material for maintenance, overhauls and rotatable components, implementing activity-based costing systems and processes, and developing forecast-at-completion reporting for rolling stock projects. It also leads the annual budgeting process and ensures effective financial performance management. Operating within a complex stakeholder environment, the role negotiates commercial outcomes with suppliers, contributes to supply chain decisions, and represents Commercial Finance in MR5 governance forums with the Department of Transport. It leads a small team and plays a critical role in managing financial risk and performance across the rolling stock function.

About You

You are a high-integrity, commercially astute finance leader with CA or CPA qualifications and a strategic mindset. With a proven track record in leading commercial finance functions—ideally within heavy industry, infrastructure, construction, or transport—you bring a forward-looking, value-driven approach to financial leadership. Your experience includes leading transformation and change, building high-performing teams, and delivering significant commercial outcomes within a complex unionised business. You engage confidently with senior stakeholders, including government and tier-one contractors, and are known for your patient, collaborative business partnering style that fosters trust and alignment across complex environments. With deep expertise in activity-based costing, strong negotiation skills, and a solid foundation in financial management, you influence decisions and drive commercial outcomes while consistently upholding the highest standards of compliance, accountability, and operational excellence.
