ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a fixed term position, 15 hours per week
The Wellbeing Coordinator – South Tas plays a vital role within the AFL's Mental Health and Wellbeing team, supporting the overall growth and development of youth athletes in the Coates Talent League. This role is responsible for delivering evidence-based well-being initiatives through group education sessions and personalised individual support. The program is designed to help athletes thrive within their football environment while also equipping them for life beyond the Talent Pathways.

The role requires attendance at afternoon training, weekend games, and occasional intra- and interstate travel.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver the Talent Pathways Wellbeing Education Framework that considers the needs of individuals and groups of the region
  • Develop individual wellbeing development plans with players, to empower their engagement in high performance environments
  • Provide one-on-one support to athletes focused on mental fitness, personal development, and sport-life balance
  • Identify, escalate, and manage wellbeing concerns using appropriate safeguarding and wellbeing referral processes
  • Accurately enter and maintain case notes, Individual Wellbeing Plans and curriculum reporting in the Athlete Management System, in line with privacy and safeguarding requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with coaches, staff, parents, and allied health professionals within their region to ensure integrated athlete support
  • Attend scheduled training, matches and team meetings (including CTL connect days) as required by the Mental Health & Wellbeing and Talent Pathway teams.
  • Contribute to a psychologically safe, inclusive, and athlete-centered environment

Core Competencies

  • Bachelor qualification in Education, Psychology, Health or related field (completed or in the process of completing)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with young people, and understand and apply professional boundaries
  • Working knowledge of adolescent development, mental health, and wellbeing in high performance sport contexts
  • Ability to apply safeguarding practices, manage confidential information, and navigate escalation pathways
  • Skilled in group facilitation and wellbeing education delivery, with flexibility to adapt to diverse audiences
  • Growth mindset, with a commitment to reflective practice and continuous development
  • Capability to operate within the pace and demands of a high-performance football environment
  • Understanding of athlete development principles, including wellbeing, high performance, balancing demands, identity, and transition support
  • Commitment to inclusion, cultural awareness, and player-centred practice
