Following the appointment of Matt Byrne to the position of Executive Director – Learning and Wellbeing, applications are invited for the position of Director, Head of Boys' Boarding at Kinross Wolaroi School, Orange. Commencing January 2026, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, strategic and experienced educational leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional boarding experiences for students in one of NSW's leading independent co-educational boarding schools.  

The School

Kinross Wolaroi School is a non-selective school with over 1,000 students (including more than 330 boarders in Years 7 to 12), located in the regional centre of Orange, NSW. We firmly believe that the enjoyment of learning and the wellbeing of our students are paramount. Our students learn to think independently and develop a sense of authenticity that will be valuable in a world that is constantly evolving. 

The Position

The Director, Head of Boys Boarding is responsible for leading the boys boarding provision and working effectively with the boarding staff team to create a supportive, safe and disciplined boarding environment, in which each boarding student has the opportunity to develop and reach their personal potential across all areas of school life. Reporting to the Head of Senior School, this is a strong team-based role which naturally requires exceptional teamwork and interpersonal communication skills. 

You will work closely with Ms. Hannah Whittemore, the Director, Head of Girls' Boarding, to create and foster a community environment, which reflects and values a strong co-educational boarding community. You will regularly update, apply and communicate with the boarding team comprehensive and consistent boarding policies that are in keeping with school policies wherever applicable. 

This is a blended teaching & boarding leadership role. Teachers of all subjects will be considered. 

The Director, Head of Boys' Boarding will be required to reside in school-provided accommodation. All costs of maintaining the residence (including utilities charges) are met by the School.

Essential Criteria

  • Accreditation, or the capacity to obtain accreditation, and authority to teach in New South Wales by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA)
  • A demonstrated understanding of the particular developmental needs of boys and how this impacts on all elements of boarding
  • Ability to communicate comfortably and informally with parents and families of boarders
  • Ability to empathise with the particular needs of regional and remote families
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills with the ability to provide dynamic leadership to a staff team, including supervisors, boarding assistants, nursing, cleaning and catering staff and to train and effectively utilise senior students as leaders
  • Ability to engage in student advocacy
  • Proven ability to develop, manage and report on boarding budgets, including oversight of expenditure, ensuring financial accountability and alignment with the School's strategic priorities
  • A willingness to travel and actively promote KWS and its Boarding program
