Communications Coordinator

We're looking for an early career communications professional to join our growing communications team. You will contribute to impactful communications targeted at healthcare professionals across Australia, focused on driving engagement with ASHM's courses and resources, conferences, and global aid work.

Team: Marketing and Communications

Location: Melbourne, hybrid role. Open to applications from other States and Territories.

Employment status: Permanent full-time

Salary: $60,000 – $70,000, dependent on experience

About You

A creative, dedicated individual who wants to make a meaningful impact while growing your skills in communications. You'll play a key role in promoting ASHM's courses and conferences, communicating policy positions, and sharing impactful and educational content across our channels. Ideally, you'll have some experience creating digital communications materials, with an interest in public health. The role will report to Senior Communications and Marketing Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop content for ASHM owned channels (websites. social media etc.)
  • Support & ensure ASHM website content is up to date, post new articles, edit/update existing content
  • Support stakeholder engagement with HIV, sexual health and BBV sectors
  • Contribute to communications projects and campaigns
  • Support other communications activity as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or similar, or equivalent work experience.
  • One year experience in a communications role.
  • Experience in not for profits or health, particularly HIV, BBVs or sexual and reproductive health, will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading health education sessions and workshops.
  • A solid understanding of blood-borne viruses, with a particular focus on hepatitis C, to ensure informed and effective educational delivery.

Skills and Abilities

  • Competent in using various computer systems and software to manage data, communication, and reporting efficiently.
  • Capable of engaging and informing diverse audiences, ensuring content is accessible and impactful.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven capacity to problem-solve quickly and efficiently, even in fast-paced or complex situations.
  • A strong desire to work in a fair, non-judgmental environment, especially with individuals affected by HIV, viral hepatitis, and related diseases.
