About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the company's financial accounting and reporting requirements. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your expertise in a key strategic position within a successful civil engineering firm.

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare monthly and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconcile the General Ledger, including processing journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Complete weekly bank reconciliations across the Group and consolidate to the GL.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly Finance Team meetings.
  • Prepare monthly GST and BAS returns.
  • Prepare year-end income tax calculations for the Group.
  • Monitor fringe benefit expenditure monthly and prepare for FBT calculations.
  • Support Accounts Payable in resolving complex issues.
  • Ensure effective control, security, and filing of financial documentation.
  • Support external auditors with year-end audit preparation.
  • Prepare documentation and manage processes for Group Insurance renewals.
  • Prepare Company reporting pack – PL, BS and Cashflow along with project reporting.
  • Prepare and monitor costs vs budget for the PL and Project reporting including commentary.
  • Monitor completion of month-end activities and report outstanding items.
  • Track and report monthly progress against budgets for the Group.
  • Review project accruals and job costs with the Cost Account Manager.

What we're looking for

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CA qualification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar financial accounting role, preferably within the construction or engineering industry
  • Strong technical accounting skills and proficiency in the use of accounting software (e.g. MYOB, Xero)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and timely financial reports
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling and budgeting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines
