Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Objective Corporation Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

About Objective:

At Objective, we create software that makes a difference. With over 400 people and five development labs spread across Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, Objective is a leading developer of SaaS solutions for the government.

Our role:

The Senior Business Consultant is responsible for providing deep, product-specific business consulting activities expertise on assigned projects. The Senior Business Consultant may take on several business projects and work in roles that range from high-level advice to on-the-ground management of a business consulting team on a major project, including the coordination and review of the work of other Business Consultants to ensure a high quality project outcome.

This role reports to a Regional Services Director or Consulting Manager and does not have people management responsibilities.

A day in your life:
  • Workshop Facilitation – Confidently leads a broad range of workshops. Delivers workshop outcomes where a variety of stakeholder interests (often conflicting) exist. Drives best practice within the bounds of the product and where necessary, guides the customer to alter their business processes.
  • Requirements Analysis –Analyses customer business processes as a precursor to solution design. Ensures alignment of the design (and any modelled business processes) to associated policies and identifies areas of (mis)alignment to the Objective product suite. Identifies changes to project scope arising from the analysis and brings these to the attention of the Objective Project Manager (PM).
  • Solution Ownership and Design - Own business design for projects, create and validate documentation, minimise technical debt, and ensure standard solution patterns are followed. Reviews and validates deliverables (e.g., configurations, functional specifications) to ensure they meet project standards.
  • Solution Configuration – Responsible for configuring the Objective product suite, aligned to best practice, to conform to the documented design, as well as making evolutionary improvements to the solution through prototyping the solution with the customer.
  • Testing Strategy –Collaborates on testing strategies (functional, integration, SIT) and performs testing to resolve issues. Supports end-to-end solution testing, UAT, and Go Live, actively triaging defects and validating outcomes.
  • Data Migration - Designs the business architecture of data migrations, including usability and security of the migrated data, undertakes data mapping between legacy systems and Objective, and advises customers on data cleansing actions.
  • Training – Trains customers in advanced aspects of the Objective product use and product administration. Serves as the Change Management Lead for Objective-related change management activities, ensuring seamless knowledge transfer and supporting Train the Trainer initiatives.
  • Internal Governance - Regularly reviews existing and emerging risks (related to business design) and develops effective mitigation strategies with the PM. Actively contributes to the project technical governance meetings, de-risking the project and protecting scope.
  • Risk Management - Identifies business design risks and risk mitigation strategies throughout projects, with a focus on business design. Partners with the PM to proactively address scope changes or conflicts that may impact the overall business design.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Establishes a trusting relationship within Customers' organisations and acts as the primary liaison between the business users and project team in matters relating to the functional scope.
  • Customer Outcomes –Delivers the contracted business outcomes for our customers, whilst minimising the complexity of the solution, reducing (or at least not acquiring) technical debt, and working within the project scope and project commercials.
  • Risk Management - Identifies business design risks and risk mitigation strategies throughout projects, with a focus on business design. Partners with the PM to proactively address scope changes or conflicts that may impact the overall business design.
  • Sales Support – Provides support to the Sales team by contributing to contributing to proposals, presenting the value of Consulting Services, and driving business development. Ensures solutions align with customer needs, Objective capabilities, and industry best practices. Defines scope, estimates effort, and identifies risks with mitigation plans for bids.
Your skills, experience and beyond:
  • Senior level consulting skills and experience in IT management consulting.
  • High degree of knowledge in Microsoft Office (Access, Advanced MS Word, Outlook).
  • Experience in UML (or similar process modelling) and data modelling.
  • Able to deliver end-user and application administration training.
  • Significant participation in functional, integration, or UAT testing.
  • Basic SQL experience and understanding of XML and SaaS (Azure/AWS) architecture.
  • Data Migration experience (preferred).
  • Strong workshop facilitation skills.
  • Able to analyse complex situations, identify key issues, and develop effective solutions for customers.
  • Able to build trust, manage expectations, and influencing decision-making.
  • Makes balanced and timely decisions with the information at hand. Evaluates options, anticipates problems, and develops contingency plans to avoid them.
  • Takes ownership of the resolution of very complex problems in a way that demonstrates balanced judgment. Develops creative workarounds and solutions for problems within appropriate timeframes.

If you do not tick every box, do not let that stop you. We value potential, learning agility, and diverse perspectives just as much as experience, and we encourage you to apply.

At Objective, we recognise and celebrate our diverse team as pivotal to our strong employee engagement and our high-performing culture, underpinned by Our Values.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on any protected characteristics or on any other basis prohibited by applicable laws in the regions where we operate.
