Primary objective
Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of sexual assault services in the form of counselling, an integrated crisis, response,
advocacy, education and training, and capacity building.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide sexual assault counselling and support to adults and children who are recent or past victims of sexual assault, and to
their families including an integrated crisis response in a multi-disciplinary context to victims of sexual assault.
2. Provide input, advice, information and training on sexual assault issues to community and Government agencies to raise
awareness of sexual assault and support for victims of sexual assault.
3. Increase the capacity of the community to respond locally to sexual assault issues and liaise with other relevant community
services and health providers.
4. Participate in the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) on-call roster as required.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary role modelling behaviour.
7. Participate in remote community work, working away for up to three days at a time
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree level qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, the Australian
Psychological Society, or some other tertiary qualification which is appropriate to the position.
2. Demonstrated experience in the provision of a range of trauma informed interventions, including therapeutic and crisis
counselling and the application of relevant theories, methods and models of practice for children and adult sexual assault
victims.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Awareness, understanding and experience of work in a cross-cultural environment particularly in relation to Aboriginal culture
and of the issues confronting Aboriginal children, adults, families and communities in regard to sexual assault.
5. Knowledge of and experience in education/ training, group work, community development and capacity building as it relates to
sexual assault services and prevention activities
6. High-level written and oral communication and organisational skills including the ability to reflect on, articulate and record what
you do and why
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures
Desirable
1. Hold a current manual Northern Territory (NT) driver's licence or the ability to obtain.
