About the role
The NSW Sheriff's Office is a law enforcement, security and court agency that is responsible for protecting and serving the NSW Justice System. Reporting to the Officer-in-Charge, NSW Sheriff's Officers have an exciting opportunity to directly support NSW residents in having a positive and just experience with the law.
This is a public-facing role where strong communication, community engagement, and the ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills are highly valued and actively utilised.
Dependent on the location, duties include:
- Maintaining the security of court complexes and the safety of people attending.
- Provide high quality support and positive interaction with a diverse range of people from the public, court staff, police, legal representatives and judicial members.
- Serving summonses and enforcing writs, warrants and orders issued out of the various courts.
- Preparing detailed reports for court use.
- Demonstrating a commitment to integrity, transparency and a respectful, people-first approach.
What we're looking for
- Dynamic and flexible staff who can meet work demands and operational requirements between 6.30am and 6.00pm.
- Willingness to move between locations as needed to support changing operational demands.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to manage challenging situations and effectively interact with a diverse range of individuals.
- Strong reading comprehension skills with the ability to interpret and understand legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare detailed, clear, and concise documentation for use in professional and legal settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the resilience to effectively handle challenging situations.
- Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong integrity and commitment to upholding ethical standards in all actions.
- Proficient in using current technologies such as Outlook and Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Dedicated to being an integral part of a team and delivering exceptional service to the broader community.
Essential Requirements
- Successful completion of the Sheriff's Officer Recruit Training Program (SORT) – 12-week course held in Parramatta.
- Certificate III in Government to be completed within 12 months of commencement.
- Successful completion of tactical re-certification, and other prescribed training programs mandated in line with Clause 9 of the Crown Employees (Sheriff's Officer) Award 2024 as required.
- Current NSW Driver's Licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Meet the required health, physical and psychological requirements in accordance with agency standards.
- a satisfactory National Criminal History Check (NSW Police fingerprint);
- If applicable complete and attach to your application Declarable Association Form
