Engagement Worker - Safe Night Spaces

About Ruah

Ruah is a leading values-driven employer in Western Australia's community services sector. Our staff go boldly, not just supporting people in need, but working to end homelessness, end domestic violence and create opportunities for people struggling with poverty and mental health challenges.

Our professional team of operational and corporate services staff is backed by one of WA's biggest Peer support workforces. Our staff reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, where difference is valued, celebrated and embraced.

By choosing to work with us, you are helping transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.

About the Role

The Women's Safe Night Space has been developed by Ruah Community Services and this exciting innovative program requires dynamic and enthusiastic team members to work alongside the established and well-functioning Ruah Centre which has been supporting rough sleepers for over 60 years.

The Ruah Safe Night Space has been developed to respond to the urgent need for a safe and culturally secure night space for women sleeping rough in Perth. This may include chronically street-present women (rough sleepers), women escaping family and domestic violence who would otherwise face being forced onto the streets, and women awaiting placement in transitional or long-term accommodation.

We are seeking a part time Engagement Worker to work in our Safe Night Space team. The successful candidate will work on a 4 on 4 off roster between the hours of 11:30pm - 07:00am.

Please note that this position involves shift work, working night shifts, weekends and public holidays, with relevant penalty rates applying.

This is a part time maximum-term contract, working 45.6 hours per fortnight, with a maximum term date of 30 June 2026.

What we're looking for

The successful applicant will be required to meet the following criteria:

• Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the guiding principles of the organization.

• Completion of a relevant qualification (certificate III/IV), and/or relevant work experience (at least 2 year), or degree qualification.

• Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship.

• A high level of understanding of the Housing First principles and how they relate to people experiencing homelessness in their transition to permanent, long-term housing.

• Demonstrated understanding and experience working with issues facing people who experience chaotic life circumstances such as homelessness, AOD use, family and domestic violence and mental health issues.

• Relevant experience and demonstrated skill in providing support services to people experiencing disadvantage.

• Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.

• Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.

What do we offer?
  • A salary aligned with Level 3 of the Ruah Enterprise Agreement (and the SCHADS Award), starting at $76,617.
  • 5 weeks annual leave + 17.5% annual leave loading.
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave, with flexibility to take at 32 weeks half-pay (uniquely, new staff can access 4 weeks paid parental leave after just 6 months' service).
  • Free, independent and confidential access for you and your direct family to our Employee Assistance Program.

  • benefits for salary packaging travel, accommodation, parking fees, education expenses and more
  • Opportunities to be active in the Ruah Community such as participating in a wide range of working groups, joining us at Pride events, being a part of a range of cultural events to promote and support reconciliation and much, much more
