Application & Portfolio Technologist (Sweet & Beverage), Oceania

As a Sweet & Beverage Application & Portfolio Technologist, you will play a key role supporting both flavour application R&D and portfolio teams as well as customers in utilizing standard library of flavours and Natural solutions. With your strong technical knowledge, creativity and innovation, you will develop total finished product solutions and manage hands-on application work incorporating Symrise technologies across multiple categories including dairy, beverages, confectionery, bakery and plant-based products. You will spearhead systematic flavor reviews and evaluations aligned with internal and external stakeholders needs. You will conduct sensory evaluation, maintain and organized flavour portfolio library accordingly to support the portfolio hub and key customers for successful deliverables.

You will always uphold and maintain a safe working environment especially handling dangerous goods. Wearing appropriate PPE and following related procedures to ensure safety of themselves and others.

The Position:

Applications

  • Development of finished product formulations and applications incorporating Symrise technologies in various food matrix including but not exclusive to Dairy, Beverage, Confectionary, Bakery, Plant based products in accordance to industrial standards, country specific and client requirements.
  • Provide total solutions to customers through creative problem-solving skills and technical knowledge of development.
  • Direct evaluation of new Symrise technologies, finished products, customer bases and market samples and modification of existing products and process to develop new finished product formulations.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in new concept brainstorming and generation and develop proactive applications to enhance further as taste solutions principal and exhibit new technologies and capabilities.
  • Evaluate, assess and develop counter types or matches of food products.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to select functional raw materials and other ingredients as required, to stay updated of new technologies and trends.
  • Continual and consistent research and upgrade of technical expertise to stay updated on consumer and market trends.
  • Assist to coordinate launches and scale up of new products including trials.
  • Strong leadership and active participation to spearhead projects independently and impart knowledge to peers and colleagues to drive commercial success.
  • Work closely with cross functional departments to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables and seamless project execution.
  • Conduct presentations for technical visits and act as key direct technical contact to build stronger partnerships with key customers.
  • Establish regional and global network to leverage and exchange knowledge to contribute to continuous learning and development.
  • Utilizing IT systems for project management including record keeping, application database and product information.

Portfolio

  • Manage and review Standard Library of Flavors for sweet & beverage flavors to support the technical portfolio hub and key customers across the business.
  • Conduct sensory evaluation and identify gaps to maintain optimal portfolio as new developments or tonalities are created.
  • Support portfolio hub for sample requests and evaluations.
  • Stay abreast of SymScript flavour language and provide training to technical and commercial teams.
  • Selection of winning flavours from the Standard library to fulfil customer requests

Health & Safety

  • As a safety leader to always uphold and maintain a safe working environment especially handling dangerous goods.
  • To wear appropriate PPE and follow related procedures (i.e. GMP and HACCP) to ensure safety.
  • Always follow safety procedures and report incidents or "near misses" to supervisor.
  • Assist in work coverage when required or if other team members are on leave.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor degree qualification in Food Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in industrial food, ingredients or flavor industry with a focus on sweet, bakery, confectionery, dairy and/or beverage related disciplines.
  • Additional expertise in alcoholic beverages would be preferred.
  • Expertise in dairy and confectionery would be an added advantage.
  • Strong expertise in sensory evaluation, technical knowledge and application recipe design and creation.
  • Possess good knowledge of recipe ingredients, raw materials and their function for flavor application.
  • Possess good knowledge of Food Standards Code (FSANZ)
  • Strong passion in food ingredients / flavor portfolios.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suites.
  • A strong team player, independent, driven and is highly agile, accountable, creative and innovative.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to accept temporary placements in other locations for project / training needs.
