About the Company

The South Australian Network of Drug and Alcohol Services (SANDAS) is the peak body representing non-government alcohol and other drug (AOD) services in South Australia. SANDAS exists to strengthen and amplify the AOD sector in SA so it can reduce harm, influence reform, and deliver better outcomes for the community. They collaborate with government agencies, service providers, and the community to achieve positive outcomes for individuals and families affected by substance use

SANDAS provides policy leadership, sector coordination, and capacity building through training, information sharing, and workforce development initiatives. It actively engages in research, consultation, and advocacy to influence public policy and ensure that the voice of the non-government AOD sector is heard in decision-making processes. Through its work, SANDAS aims to promote evidence-based practices, reduce stigma, and enhance the effectiveness and reach of services across South Australia.

Role Overview

As the CEO, you will be responsible for leading inclusive consultation processes that ensure the views of the South Australia's non-government AOD sector are accurately represented. You will develop strong and supportive membership networks across AOD providers, practitioners, and stakeholders through regular meetings, workshops, and forums. The CEO will establish mechanisms to identify and articulate sector views on key issues such as prevention, treatment, research, quality assurance, and professional development. Working closely with the SANDAS Board and sector stakeholders, you will foster democratic decision-making, encourage broad participation, and build collaborative engagement within the community.

This role plays a vital role in advocating for the AOD sector to government, key decision-makers, and the broader community. You will prepare sector-informed submissions, ensure representation in policy forums, and facilitate engagement with senior government officials, politicians, and advisors. You will maintain strong relationships with media and peak bodies to promote the sector's profile and priorities, implement a communications and media strategy, and provide timely information and research to members. Through these activities, the CEO serves as a trusted representative and key link between the AOD sector, government, and the broader community.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

·       Proven experience in project management, ideally within a non-government organisation, with demonstrated leadership in a senior role (preferably within a peak advocacy body).

·       Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policy, lead consultation processes, and write high-quality submissions.

·       Skilled in advocacy and stakeholder engagement, including experience working with government agencies, service providers, families, people with lived experience, politicians, and media.

·       High-level communication and liaison skills, with experience across various media channels.

·       Ability to form strong and consultative partnerships with a wide range of key stakeholders.

·       Knowledge of governance and management, with the ability to work effectively under the strategic direction of a Board.

·       Commitment to equal opportunity principles in both employment and service delivery.

·       Relevant tertiary or professional qualifications in human services or management.

·       Understanding of alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, and knowledge of the AOD sector in South Australia.
