About the role
An exciting new opportunity has become available for a Senior Developer to join our Trading division. You will be solving complex real-world problems, building market leading solutions and contribute to the energy transition.
Embedded in the Physical Markets Team, the Trading Algorithm Development team designs and builds trading algorithms and applications that enable automatic energy trading and empower Traders to extract commercial value from AGL's generation assets within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and AGL's contracts in various gas markets.
You will be working closely with Developers, Traders & Analysts to implement systematised solutions such as grid scale battery autobidders, and be responsible for understanding the business needs, scoping, implementing, refining and supporting solutions that back the dispatch of power stations and other assets.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborating with other engineers, analysts, architects and stakeholders to identify and develop applications & solutions that capture business opportunities.
- Applying your craft in understanding the business' requirements and implementing scalable, resilient and market leading solutions.
- Ensuring the systems comply with regulatory and safety requirements and meet business standards.
- Maintaining a strong grasp of Australian electricity and gas markets as well as the importance of compliance ensuring the business upholds the market rules.
- Taking ownership of contributions to applications and solutions owned by the team.
About you
You are comfortable working in an ever-changing world, with strong curiosity and proactively seek new knowledge. As a technical innovator and a creative and pragmatic problem solver, you enjoy solving complex business problems by developing applications and solutions. Your desire to deeply understand physical markets energy trading and influence the strategy of the business will set you up for success.
In addition to the above you will demonstrate:
- Strong technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, Java, C++.
- Python production applications development or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of (Azure) cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CICD.
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, BI and other data tools.
- Strong communication skills on both technical and non-technical topics.
- Proven ability to understand complex problems and design innovative solutions.
- Experience with Wholesale Energy Market Systems or Trading Algorithms are highly advantageous, however not essential.
