North Sydney Council, Australia Dipole Group Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled
Observability Engineer

with hands-on experience in
Cribl Stream

and
Dynatrace

to design, implement, and optimize enterprise observability platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring that telemetry data—logs, metrics, traces, and events—is efficiently collected, transformed, enriched, and visualized to improve performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and proactive issue detection across cloud and on-prem environments.

Observability Platform Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and maintain
    Cribl Stream pipelines
for data routing, transformation, and enrichment across multiple log sources.
  • Integrate observability pipelines with tools such as
Splunk, Dynatrace, Elastic, Prometheus, and Azure Monitor
    .
  • Develop reusable Cribl packs, routes, and knowledge objects to optimize data flow and control ingestion costs.
  • Build and maintain
    Dynatrace monitoring configurations
, including custom dashboards, management zones, tagging rules, and anomaly detection policies.
  • Implement
synthetic monitoring, RUM (Real User Monitoring), and log monitoring
     for distributed applications.

Data & Integration

  • Configure log and metric ingestion from hybrid environments (cloud, containers, network, applications, endpoints).
  • Work with
    APIs, webhooks, and forwarders
for custom integrations between Cribl, Dynatrace, and third-party tools.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and security teams to enhance data observability end-to-end.

Automation & Scripting

  • Automate configuration deployments using
    Terraform, Ansible, or Dynatrace Configuration-as-Code
    .
  • Write scripts in
    Python / Bash / PowerShell
for observability workflows, custom metrics, and data validations.

Performance Monitoring & Analysis

  • Analyze service performance, latency, and resource utilization to identify bottlenecks.
  • Create
    actionable insights and alerts
through custom Dynatrace dashboards and Cribl data enrichment logic.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and incident reviews using observability data.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with
    Cribl Stream
     and
    Dynatrace SaaS/Managed
    .
  • Deep understanding of
    observability concepts (logs, metrics, traces)
     and telemetry pipelines.
  • Familiarity with
log management systems (Splunk, Elastic, Graylog)
     and
    metric platforms (Prometheus, Grafana)
    .
  • Knowledge of
    APM (Application Performance Monitoring)

    synthetic testing
    , and
    infrastructure monitoring
    .
  • Experience in
data onboarding, routing, filtering, masking, and transformation
    .
  • Cloud platform exposure:
    AWS, Azure, or GCP
    .
  • Basic networking knowledge (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP) and OS-level performance metrics.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
