St Michael's Grammar School is seeking a passionate, inspiring and dedicated educator for the Position of Responsibility of Head of Pastoral Care (P-6), Junior School. This role provides educational and pastoral leadership for students and staff within the Junior School.

About the Role

This is a newly created role commencing in 2026, that reports to the Director (P-3) and Director The Head of Pastoral Care (P-6) is a key role in the Junior School Leadership Team, providing strong leadership and strategic direction for the Junior School's pastoral care programs, ensuring that all students are supported in their social, emotional, spiritual, and academic development. The role assists in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive Junior School culture aligned with the School's vision and values. This includes maintaining operational procedures and policies, proactive case management, behavioural support, and collaboration with key staff and families to ensure a cohesive and responsive pastoral care program.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience leading wellbeing and pastoral care initiatives and programs that support the holistic development of students in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of childhood and early adolescent development, with a focus on the social, emotional, and academic needs of primary aged learners.
  • Knowledge and a practical understanding of effective pastoral frameworks, restorative practices, and inclusive approaches.
  • Commitment to and strong understanding of child safety legislation and the creation of a culture of care, inclusion, and integrity.
  • Demonstrated capacity to uplift and guide colleagues through collaboration, professional coaching, and a shared commitment to student growth.
  • Capacity to respond with empathy and professionalism to student needs and behavioural needs, working closely with families and support staff.
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive conversations with clarity and care.
  • Be a qualified Junior School Teacher with current VIT registration.
  • Actively engage in all aspects of school life, contributing to a vibrant and connected learning community.
  • Be confident in differentiating learning to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Model exemplary classroom practice, using innovative and effective teaching strategies that reflect current research in pedagogy.
