The National Parks and Wildlife Service's Southern Ranges Branch is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Field Supervisor to lead the field teams responsible for implementing the Bushfire Management Program (BMP).

The BMP field team is primarily involved in fuel reduction activities by both mechanical means and prescribed fire and, during periods of high bushfire activity, may be required to participate in bushfire suppression or other bushfire response functions.

Based in the Jindabyne Depot and working out of the Tumut Depot as required, the roles supervisors crews working out of these depots across the broader Southern Ranges branch managing 98 parks and reserves, including Kosciuszko National Park, the largest park in New South Wales. Our parks are home to the NSW alpine ski resorts, which attract a high number of visitors in the winter months. From the tablelands of the Monaro Plain to the high-altitude alpine areas of Kosciuszko and Brindabella National Park, our branch covers one of the most geographically and biologically diverse areas in the state.

About You

To be successful in the role you will have extensive experience in leading and ensuring work is undertaken with a commitment to protect visitor facilities, park assets and the natural and cultural heritage values of parks and meet statutory obligations.

You will have the demonstrated ability and reputation for building and maintaining a strong safety culture and maintaining safe working procedures and occupational health and safety standards.

With good communication and interpersonal skills, you will have experience in managing a broad range of external relationships including park neighbours, general public and with other government departments and community groups.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Drivers Licence, demonstrated ability and experience in operating 4wd vehicles, and ability to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and incident management roles including ability to maintain certification as a crew leader or higher, within the probationary period (up to 12 months), certification and experience in chainsaw operation to at least cross-cut and basic tree-felling level, ability to operate two-way radio, and willingness to fly in a light aircraft.

This is a physically demanding role, requiring heavy muscular activity, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling loads, bending, climbing, and driving a variety of vehicles. Candidates must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which in inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The candidate must pass the task based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.

A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
