About Us
The Emergency Services Foundation (ESF) supports the emergency management sector to prevent the incidence and impact of mental injury for the 139,000 volunteers and paid staff who serve us.
While every employer has responsibility for looking after the safety and wellbeing of their people, ESF is the only organisation that is entirely dedicated to the prevention of mental health injury for Victoria's emergency workers. We do this with the support of fifteen member agencies.
ESF seeks to get ahead of the mental harm and injury threat that currently pervades the sector – that is why our focus in on prevention and early intervention. To achieve this aim, we lead initiatives that translate research into innovative evidence-informed practice and programs and work collaboratively with the agencies so people right across the sector benefit.
ESFs strategic and collaborative approach to addressing shared sector wide mental health challenges makes the sector better together.
About the Role
A key function of this role is to manage ESFs digital presence on its various social platforms, and to manage communications with emergency service agencies, and other corporate bodies. A secondary function of the role is to support the implementation of ESF programs. This requires the development and evaluation of innovative communication plans and the ability to travel occasionally across metro and regional Victoria to support program facilitators and attend events.
ESF hosts a range of annual events including International Women's Day, Emergency Management Conference, ESF Mental Health Showcase and AFL Emergency Services Match. Along with fundraising initiatives and business as usual activities these all require digital and communications support
This role reports directly to the CEO, who oversees the various programs and initiatives ESF run in our efforts to prevent the incidence and impact of mental ill health across the sector.
The role is key to ESFs ongoing brand positioning, and the incumbent will be expected to operate remotely as part of a small highly committed, and effective team.
Key Responsibilities
- Devise, document, and drive the implementation of evidence-based communication plans
 - Provide progress reports against plan objectives
 - Proactively and reactively create, place, and manage all ESF digital content in a sensitive manner, and in accordance with brand guidelines
 - Build and maintain strong working relationships with member agency comms officers.
 - Coordinate all aspects of the Diversity and Inclusion Awards, presented at the International Women's Day event, including marketing, contacting, and liaising with nominees and applicants, and coordinating presentation.
 - Attend events to ensure ESFs presence is effectively promoted.
 - Gather data and information for ESF event evaluation reports including images, qualitative and quantitative data and present in an engaging way.
 
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a flexible all-rounder, willing to take on new challenges and learn new skills as part of a small but highly committed team.
 - Has a strong interest in wellbeing and or the emergency service/ management sector. A personal association to the connection to emergency service/ management sector is highly desirable however not essential.
 - Has strong people skills, ability to build a rapport with a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
 - Has a passion for working creatively, both in visual and written mediums
 - Can work autonomously in a remote team.
 - Is willing to travel occasionally across metro and regional Victoria to support ESF initiatives.
 
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Experience using digital platforms and demonstrated ability to produce engaging content, including, Canva, WordPress and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok).
 - Experience coordinating projects and confidence to work unsupervised to complete tasks in a timely manner.
 - Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare appealing and well targeted written content.
 - Strong visual communication skills, including simple graphic design, and video and audio editing.
 - Strong people skills, and the ability to establish and sustain relationships and work effectively in a small team.
 
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., media/ communications, project management) and/or equivalent knowledge, experience, and skills
 
This is a casual position of 20 hours per week on average, with an annual salary of $80,000 (pro rata) plus superannuation, a personal phone subsidy and travel reimbursement where applicable. Hours are flexible and can be negotiated and adjusted to suit. We do not have a head office, and our small team all work remotely across Victoria coming together regularly as agreed for team meetings online and face to face. Candidates from anywhere in Victoria will be considered but must be able to travel to fulfill the requirements of the role including a weekly face to face team meeting, usually on the Mornington Peninsula.
