The OpportunityThe Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated team member as a Logistics Store Person within Maintenance Services Section, Property Services Branch.
DPS supports the functions of the Australian Parliament and the work of parliamentarians through the provision of professional services, advice and facilities, the ongoing maintenance of Australian Parliament House (APH), and makes the building, and the important activity that takes place within it, accessible.
Who we are looking forThe DPS Logistics Section plays a pivotal role in support of APH on a daily basis by delivering efficient and effective logistics services and loading dock operations to parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors.
As part of the Logistics team, the successful applicants will be required to contribute to the daily operations of the APH loading dock by undertaking tasks including, but not limited to:
- Unloading and loading a large variety of vehicles
- Timely and efficient dispatch of received goods
- Documenting deliveries in computerised tracking system
- Operate forklifts
- Using a variety of electric vehicles which includes towing trailers, and
- Performing a variety of manual handling tasks
The successful applicants will be well presented, have a high level of customer service experience and will interact with a wide range of internal and external clients on a daily basis. They will work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment, requiring flexibility in order to meet the challenges presented in delivering this very important service.
Job Specific Requirements:
- A current driver's licence
- Hold a Licence to Perform High Risk Work-Forklift or be able to obtain
- Physical capacity to perform a range of duties including, but not limited to, pulling, pushing, bending, and lifting. A medical assessment to determine fitness for duty will be required prior to appointment, and
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance

Duty Statement
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Undertake a range of logistics tasks to support a busy goods delivery and distribution facility in line with established policies and standard operating procedures (SOP's).
Document goods received and dispatched using a computerised barcode tracking system and goods receipting programs such as SAP.
Safely operate a range of vehicles including forklifts, electric vehicles, tow tugs and associated equipment in accordance with established Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation, Regulations, Best Practice Guides, Policies and SOP's.
Carry out a variety of manual handling tasks in accordance with established WHS Legislation, Regulations, Best Practice Guides, Policies, SOP's, and safe manual handling techniques.
Provide a high-level of customer service to a wide range of stakeholders, including responding to routine enquiries; and
Participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster and be flexible to work out of core hours during times of heightened demand as required.
Ensure the highest levels of safety in all areas of operation, in accordance with Work Health and Safety policies, and participate in all job-related training.
Selection Criteria
Previous experience in a logistics, loading dock or similar environment,
Ability to use computerised receipting and materials tracking systems and other software and database applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or electronic record keeping programs);
Ability to operate a range of vehicles including forklifts, electric delivery vehicles and tow tugs and associated equipment in accordance with established WHS Legislation, Regulations, Best Practice Guides, Policies and SOP's; and
Experience providing customer service including building productive working relationships and communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Currently, the salary range for this position is $68,965 - $74,037 per annum.

Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
