About the Role

We are seeking an experienced
Cost Specialist
to join the
Cost Estimation Chapter
within the
Defence Digital Group (DDG)
. This role plays a key part in standardising and uplifting cost estimation practices across Defence ICT projects and ensuring alignment with broader Defence policy and governance.

You will contribute to the development of strategic cost policy, templates, and tools, and provide targeted costing support and assurance to high-priority digital projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and tailor Defence Capability Costing templates for use in DDG ICT projects.
  • Draft and contribute to the development of the
    DDG Cost Policy
    in alignment with Defence Costing Policy.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to ensure cost policy and templates are practical and fit-for-purpose.
  • Support professionalisation initiatives, including running workshops, clinics, and producing guidance materials.
  • Provide expert input to the
    Cost Estimation Capability Framework
    and accreditation pathway.
  • Deliver costing support to ICT projects, including building cost models, effort estimation, assurance reviews, and cost control mechanisms.
  • Ensure all costing approaches align with Defence policy and support cost recovery objectives where applicable.

Expected Deliverables

  • Draft
    DDG Cost Policy
    and standardised ICT costing template.
  • Stakeholder engagement summary and integration plan.
  • Contributions to Chapter strategic initiatives such as a playbook and capability framework.
  • Costing artefacts, cost models, and assurance inputs for supported projects.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • In-depth experience in
    Defence cost estimation
    , particularly within ICT project environments.
  • Familiarity with
    Defence Capability Costing templates
    and
    Defence Costing Policy
    .
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage stakeholder engagement for policy development.
  • Experience contributing to capability uplift in cost estimation, including clinics, training, and guidance documents.
  • Technical proficiency in cost modelling, effort estimation, assurance reviews, and cost control.
  • Strong understanding of Defence policy and costing standards.
  • Ability to align practices with Defence governance and support cost recovery strategies.
