About the Job

We are currently seeking a Category Manager to join our team in Rhodes, NSW.

Reporting to the Head of Product, the primary purpose of this role is to grow and maintain a portfolio of categories in the electronics space.

This position manages the trade partner relationship (internationally and domestically) & is responsible for the terms of trade, product procurement and ranging, product pricing, developing, and negotiating the quarterly promotional programs with trade partners and internal stakeholders, working within a category strategy framework.

Responsibilities

  • Development of Category Plans (for focus categories), in conjunction with key stakeholders, to ensure maximum sales & profit is generated from the implementation of the strategy.
  • Analyse industry and consumer trends and apply category lens to meet Customer demand.
  • Develop a range that meets current and future Customer needs for each retail channel and delivers to Category Sales, Profit, and Inventory budgeted targets.
  • Monitor financial performance of range and adjust plans as required.
  • Grow market share through fair everyday pricing and promotional price optimisation.
  • Build strong Vendor partnerships to deliver innovation, availability, and competitive value to our customers at a sustainable gross profit.
  • Identify and build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with retail teams around focus categories and product launch plans. Seek feedback for range opportunities through Voice of the Customer.
  • Ensure promotional pricing is competitive and delivers a sustainable gross profit to achieve/exceed category budgets.
  • Review promotional effectiveness at the completion of each marketing activity.
  • Negotiate promotional funding and support from Trade Partners as required
  • Coach & train the Assistant Category Manager to deliver their role requirements & support improved business decision making.
  • Manage the day-to-day work & priorities of the Assistant Category Manager.
  • Conduct performance evaluations & regularly provide feedback to the Assistant Category Manager to improve performance & achieve business objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with all Trade Partners.
  • Communicate with the Head of Product in addition to (where relevant) the marketing, retail operations teams on any significant category, supplier, competitive, sales or income issues together with recommendations on corrective actions.
  • Conduct post implementation reviews of NPD, promotions & category reviews & develop improvement plans where results do not meet expectations including negotiating improved outcomes from Trade Partners.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years buying, and category management experience required internal / external.
  • Tertiary education preferred.
  • Familiarity with consumer electronics or a willingness to quickly learn product specifications and terminology.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong Customer Service Orientation.
  • Strong communicator & negotiator.
  • Able to build long term relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
