EnergyCo is the Infrastructure Planner who is now delivering the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone — a nation-leading project unlocking 4.5 GW of clean energy, billions in private investment, and 5,000+ construction jobs across approximately 20,000 square kilometres centred by Dubbo and Dunedoo, on the land of the Wiradjuri, Wailwan and Kamilaroi people.

About the OpportunityThe EnergyCo Legal team plays a critical role in supporting the CWO REZ, providing expert advice on contracts, compliance, and dispute resolution. The Principal Legal Officer leads legal risk management, ensures obligations under project deeds are met and represents EnergyCo in complex negotiations with external stakeholders. Working in a dynamic and collaborative legal team, you'll provide expert advice on complex electricity sector matters, from implementing the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap to advising on legislation such as the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020. You will lead legal aspects of state significant energy infrastructure transactions, support procurement processes, advise on access schemes for new generation and storage, and contribute to regulatory reform and policy development. Your work will span property, planning, procurement, and governance, directly influencing the delivery of major projects and helping to secure a more sustainable energy future for NSW.

You bring demonstrated expertise in commercial transactions, ideally within the energy sector, with strengths in areas such as energy law, land acquisition, major projects, procurement, construction, or disputes. Backed by a strong foundation in administrative law, statutory interpretation and government processes, you are well placed to contribute to significant legal and reform initiatives that will shape the future of energy in NSW. Essential Requirements
- Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, an NSW Practising Certificate.
For more information read the full Role Description: Principal Legal OfficerWho we are?The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government's Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state's electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State's first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
