A leading defence technology company is seeking a Production Automation Engineer to join its Sydney-based production team. Reporting to the Production Automation Lead, this position is responsible for the design and development of manufacturing test systems and rigs that will be used both in-house and by international contract manufacturers.

The successful candidate will design solutions that improve production speed, accuracy, and test coverage while ensuring systems are scalable, documented, and maintainable. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with engineering, production, and external partners, with occasional travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement production test rigs to support efficient and accurate product testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand product testing requirements.
  • Define system requirements and develop validation tests.
  • Manage project plans, deliverables, and development timelines.
  • Produce detailed documentation for scalability and long-term maintenance.
  • Liaise with test equipment vendors for quotes, technical support, and integration.
  • Support both local production operations and overseas manufacturing partners.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Software Development, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing manufacturing systems and test rigs (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Python, including unit testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with VISA communications for instrumentation control.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD tools for designing rig interfaces.
  • Understanding of RF concepts and use of RF test equipment (desirable).
  • Ability to hold or obtain security clearance if required.
