API Automation Engineer

Conexxia is a leading Australian IT Consulting Company specializing in agile development, continuous delivery, and DevOps. We are passionate about strategic automation and Digital Transformation, currently servicing prominent customers across Australia and Europe.

We are seeking an experienced API Automation Engineer to join a major strategic transformation program on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract. This role involves replacing legacy operational systems that have served as the central source of truth for operational data for over 30 years.

This enterprise-wide modernization program will transform how operational data is captured, shared, and acted upon. The initiative will establish foundations for open data interoperability, enabling real-time insights and AI-assisted decision-making while supporting seamless collaboration with industry partners and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain API automation frameworks for RESTful/GraphQL services and event-driven architecture solutions
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure API contracts and integration points are thoroughly tested and validated
  • Implement continuous testing within CI/CD pipelines using modern automation tools
  • Identify quality assurance process bottlenecks and recommend improvement strategies
  • Conduct performance and load testing to validate system reliability under real-world conditions
  • Coordinate testing efforts across multiple services and teams to ensure smooth product releases
  • Investigate defects and failures, perform root cause analysis, and advocate for API design best practices
  • Drive adoption of shift-left testing methodologies, integrating automation early in development lifecycle
  • Support ongoing maintenance and enhancement of test assets, ensuring reusability and scalability
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration in Quality Engineering

Essential Requirements

  • 5+ years of software testing experience with strong focus on event-driven and API automation
  • Deep understanding of Apache Kafka architecture (brokers, topics, partitions, producers, consumers, consumer groups, offsets)
  • Proficiency in automation tools such as RestAssured and Postman
  • Strong Java programming skills for test automation
  • Extensive experience in BDD test automation using Cucumber
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Expertise in logging and monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog, or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach in Agile/Scrum environments

Desirable Skills

  • Contract testing experience using Pact or similar tools
  • Security testing practices knowledge (OWASP, API security best practices)
  • Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Previous experience in transportation, logistics, or e-commerce industries
