The Geological Survey of NSW (part of NSW Resources) is seeking a Geoscientist, Asset Curator (Physical and Digital) to join the team at the W B Clarke Geoscience Centre.
The Opportunity
In this role you'll play a pivotal role in managing and maintaining both digital and physical assets for the Geological Survey of NSW.
Working both independently and collaboratively, you'll enhance resource management, support innovation, and ensure the integrity of our State Significant Heritage collections by:
- Overseeing acquisition, cataloguing, and curatorship of geological and palaeontological specimens (physical and digital)
- Fostering continuous improvement and innovation in geoscientific data and services
- Liaising with stakeholders, landholders, and agencies to deliver successful projects and community outreach
- Improving the quality and accuracy of geoscience databases (Geobank)
- Ensuring compliance with WHS, environmental, technical, and best-practice industry standards
- Maintaining lab facilities at the Geoscience Centre
What We're Looking For
To be successful you'll need tertiary qualifications in geoscience or palaeontology (postgraduate or PhD preferred), as well as a current Class C driver's licence.
You'll also need:
- Detailed knowledge of NSW geology, asset curation, and collection management
- Advanced computer skills (data analysis, cataloguing, database administration)
- Skills in mineralogy, palaeontology, petrography, or microscopy (advantageous)
- The willingness and ability to carry out fieldwork in remote areas
