Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Updoc Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Hey I'm Mel, leading Finance & Accounting (FA) at Updoc. We're building the future of healthcare, and that means not just innovating on product and tech but having robust, scalable, and strategic financial systems that power everything behind the scenes.

I'm looking for an experienced
Finance Accounting Leader
who thrives in fast-paced environments, brings clarity and structure to ambiguity and wants to play a key role in helping Updoc scale responsibly. You'll work closely with me (and the rest of our execs) to make sure we stay compliant, audit-ready, well-funded, and armed with the right insights to make big decisions.

Updoc is profitable, growing fast, and backed by some of Australia's leading investors. We've won AFR Best Places to Work two years running, and we're proud of the smart, humble, and kind team we've built.

About the role

FA at Updoc isn't just about bookkeeping - it's a core strategic function.

We move fast and build quickly, so we need strong financial controls, clean processes, and sharp insight to keep pace. You'll take the lead on our monthly reporting, tax compliance, audit management, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, and more. You'll also have a voice in strategic decisions, supporting leadership with real-time data and commercial analysis.

We're not looking for someone to just "keep the lights on." We're looking for someone to push us forward - whether that's automating our close process, strengthening internal controls, or managing cross-border tax compliance as we expand.

At Updoc you'll be:

  • Leading the month-end/year-end close and management reporting process.
  • Managing statutory compliance - tax, audits, and AASB/IFRS reporting.
  • Building and refining financial policies, controls, and delegated authorities.
  • Owning budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow processes.
  • Supporting the FA team and helping everyone level up through systems and processes.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate and streamline core accounting operations.
  • Acting as the day-to-day point of contact for our tax agents, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

Your first week

  • You'll arrive to a new desk and device ready to be set up, with a clear onboarding guide.
  • Each day you will spend time going through our FA manual, learning about our team norms, processes, rituals, and systems.
  • You'll be met by your own buddy who will introduce you to the team and help you remember names and faces so you're not overwhelmed.
  • The broader team will introduce themselves over the first few weeks to avoid overloading you with introductions, new names, and a new workplace all at once.
  • You'll sit in on leadership syncs to understand how finance partners with other functions – marketing, engineering, product, clinical ops, CX, and more.
  • On Tuesday, you'll join our all-hands company sync and meet the broader team over Song's delicious team lunch (dietary friendly, of course).
  • You'll finish the week with a solid handle on our systems, team, and priorities – and some ideas on what we can improve.

About you

  • You're a CA/CPA with many years of post-qual experience.
  • You have strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, tax, and financial controls.
  • You're experienced managing audits, responding to tricky queries, and working with tax advisors.
  • You're great with Xero, Excel, and G-Suite - and bonus points if you've dabbled in SQL, Python, or Zapier.
  • You love systems and hate inefficiency - you're always looking for ways to automate and improve.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and can zoom in on the details or zoom out to advise leadership.
  • You care about people and culture - you're a team player who communicates clearly and helps others succeed.
  • You've worked in a high-growth environment and know what scrappy-but-scalable looks like.

We're not looking for the perfect CV - we're looking for someone who's smart, thoughtful, and ready to make an impact. If that sounds like you, let's chat

Growth, support, and culture

At Updoc, we want our people to drive our culture through leadership, helping enthusiastically, and unlocking the Updoc team's potential.

  • True ownership of your area – you'll drive projects end-to-end and have real impact on how the company runs.
  • Backing from leadership – we're not just ticking boxes, we're building a finance function to scale.
  • High trust, high support – when something breaks, we fix it together.
  • Psychological safety – we learn from our mistakes and grow together.
  • Recognition – we celebrate wins and learn from losses as a team.

We're building a team that reflects the diversity and value of the real world. If you're from a background that's underrepresented in finance or tech, we especially encourage you to apply. Don't self-select out – we'd love to meet you.

What's in it for you

We go beyond the standard perks. At Updoc, you'll enjoy:

  • Meaningful work – help reshape healthcare and improve lives across Australia.
  • Real autonomy – think, build, improve. No micromanagement.
  • Kind, brilliant teammates – we lift each other up.
  • Flexibility – hybrid work options, family-friendly culture, and real respect for work-life balance.
  • Free daily lunches – cooked by Song, our in-house chef (he used to run the kitchen at Canva).
  • Competitive salary – because great work should be well-compensated.
  • Health perks – unlimited telehealth, wellness benefits, and mental health support.
  • Great office – 3 mins from Central Station, stocked fridge & pantry, sunlit desks.
  • Fast growth – help build a category-defining company, from the inside.
