About us

Williams Equipment Engineering is a respected engineering and fabrication company servicing mining, civil, industrial, and heavy-equipment clients across Australia. We are now seeking an experienced and commercially minded General Manager to lead the business through its next phase of growth.

This is a unique opportunity: a clean slate role where the right leader can shape the direction, culture, and performance of the business. You will have full autonomy to build the systems, processes, and operational structure you believe will deliver real results.

About the Role

The General Manager will oversee day-to-day operations, lead a diverse team, and ensure strong commercial performance across all areas of the business. You will be responsible for delivering profitable outcomes, driving business development activity, and maintaining high service standards for our clients.

This role suits someone hands-on, confident in their abilities, and thrives in an environment where autonomy and responsibility are closely aligned

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the business with a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the financial performance of the business, including monitoring and reporting on the P&L.
  • Provide strong people leadership, including coaching, workforce planning, and performance management.
  • Manage quoting and estimating for engineering, fabrication, and project-based works.
  • Apply strong commercial acumen to ensure accurate pricing, profitability, and cost control.
  • Actively pursue new work—follow up leads, build relationships, and convert opportunities.
  • Use your established industry contacts and networks to bring in new business.
  • Implement and refine systems, workflows, and business processes as needed.
  • Operate as an autonomous self-starter, capable of independently driving outcomes without constant oversight.

About You

You're a confident, experienced leader who understands the demands of the mining and heavy-industry sectors. You can quote a job, read a P&L, mentor a team, and hold your own in conversations with clients, suppliers, and industry partners.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in the mining or heavy-industry sector (essential)
  • Proven experience in quoting/estimating engineering and fabrication works
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of margins, cost control, and business financials
  • Effective people-management and leadership skills
  • A demonstrated ability to follow up leads and secure new work
  • The ability to leverage industry connections to create opportunities
  • A proactive, self-driven approach—the ability to work autonomously
  • A desire to build, refine, and shape a business function from the ground up
