Newmont APAC Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Papua New Guinea, with roles in operations, projects, corporate support and exploration. APAC Business Unit Support is provided from our offices in Brisbane, Subiaco and Melbourne.

Your Impact

You will be the driving force behind industrial hygiene excellence across the Business Unit, embedding enterprise standards, ensuring compliance, and guiding site programs to manage occupational health risks.

Your expertise will shape workforce health strategies, influence operational practices, and support a culture of safety and continuous improvement, ensuring that Newmont's operations remain safe, compliant, and world-class.

As part of our team, you will

  • Embed and oversee enterprise industrial hygiene standards and procedures across all sites.
  • Ensure statutory obligations are clearly defined, assigned, and verified at site level.
  • Evaluate and endorse site industrial hygiene programs, ensuring alignment with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance on occupational exposures, emerging risks, and complex technical challenges.
  • Analyse and interpret exposure data using advanced statistical methods to identify trends and drive proactive improvements.
  • Benchmark site performance against internal, regulatory, and industry standards, delivering clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Mentor and develop site Industrial Hygiene Officers, strengthening technical capability and professional growth.
  • Validate the effectiveness of monitoring programs and risk controls, identifying opportunities for enhancement.
  • Partner with Health & Safety leaders to integrate industrial hygiene into broader workforce health and risk management strategies.
  • Represent Newmont with regulators, consultants, and professional associations to influence and align with best practice.

Prerequisites for your success in this role

You are a technically accomplished and trusted industrial hygiene professional who brings both strategic insight and practical experience to complex operational environments. With a strong foundation in science and engineering, you combine deep technical expertise with the ability to influence, coach, and drive excellence across diverse sites and teams.

To Thrive In This Role, You Will Bring

  • A degree in occupational hygiene, science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced certification or eligibility with a recognised professional body (e.g., COH or CIH).
  • Onsite experience, ideally within the mining or heavy industry sectors, with a strong understanding of workforce exposure risks.
  • Deep knowledge of occupational hygiene standards, regulatory frameworks, and good practice across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Practical experience embedding enterprise standards, verifying compliance, and guiding site-level programs to ensure consistent implementation.
  • Advanced technical capability in exposure assessment, modelling, statistical analysis, and health risk evaluation.
  • Expertise in monitoring methodologies for chemical, physical, and biological agents, coupled with a strong understanding of data interpretation and validation.
  • Proficiency in risk management frameworks and project management fundamentals to plan, execute, and deliver business unit initiatives effectively.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills to engage senior leaders, regulators, and technical experts.
  • A collaborative approach to mentoring, training, and building capability across teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Experience applying risk management principles and project management fundamentals to business unit initiatives.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and data platforms used in occupational hygiene management and reporting.
  • Proven analytical thinker and effective troubleshooter with a strong track record of solving complex problems and delivering practical, results-driven solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to mine sites.

Your work environment

Join our Brisbane-based team and enjoy flexible Monday-to-Friday work arrangements, balancing time between working from home and our modern Fortitude Valley office, conveniently located near public transport and local cafés. We are also open to this role being based at the Newmont Perth Hub in Western Australia.

You'll have the opportunity to travel quarterly to site operations across the Asia Pacific region and annually to Africa and Papua New Guinea, supporting collaboration and connection with our global teams.

You will join a collaborative, technically skilled, and purpose-driven team within one of the world's most respected mining organisations. You will work closely with Business Unit and Site Health & Safety Leaders, Industrial Hygiene Officers, and Enterprise Functional Specialists.

Together, you'll shape programs that protect workforce health, strengthen compliance, and advance Newmont's leadership in sustainable mining practices.
