The Lead Mechanical Engineer at AWMA plays a pivotal role in delivering advanced mechanical products and solutions. Using advanced mechanical engineering first principles, this role defines and maintains AWMA's design intent across all products and projects.

Key responsibilities include developing engineering reports and calculation sheets, establishing minimum engineering checks, and reviewing the work of other engineers to ensure design intent is accurately reflected in manufacturing drawings. The is a technical leadership role, that supports the development of the engineering and design team under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.

This role requires occassional head office visits, we are based in Cohuna, Victoria (3 hours north of Melbourne).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project technical specifications and design requirements accepted during the sales stage.
  • Determine initial sizing and specifications for mechanical and structural components during design.
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate design performance and integrity.
  • Support the engineering and drafting teams with the design and development of new products and improvements to existing products, including:
  • Preparing engineering design reports
  • Developing Safety in Design (SID) reports
  • Establish minimum engineering checks required for all engineering work.
  • Develop calculation sheets and supporting engineering documentation for use by the design team (referencing standards, internal knowledge, and AWMA product experience).
  • Review and verify engineering calculations prepared by others, ensuring engineering intent is accurately reflected in manufacturing drawings.
  • Translate sales-stage scope and technical requirements into clear operational deliverables.

About you:

You will be an Engineering Professional who has worked in a mechanical engineering space for atleast 5 to 10 years. Additionally:

  • Extensive experience as a Mechanical Engineer, R&D background will be highly desirable
  • Strong capability in mechanical engineering first principles
  • Registered Engineer (RPEV & listed onNational Engineers Register)
  • Significant experience in product design, development, or manufacturing environments
  • Proven ability to support complex engineering projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical capability
  • Technical capability to mentor and support the engineering and design team
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
