About the Role:
In this role you will contribute to school staff mental health and wellbeing in support of student behaviour through the delivery of evidence-based contemporary services within state schools across Queensland. This is a temporary full-time project position until 30 June 2027, unless otherwise determined. Base location of this role is Central Office, Brisbane. The position reports to the Director, Student Behaviour, State Schools Strategy.
Responsibilities Include:
- Contribute to school staff mental health and wellbeing in support of student engagement and behaviour through the delivery of evidence-based contemporary services to state schools across Queensland.
- Provide tailored professional support and information for identified school staff working in schools and psychology services such as counselling, assessment and intervention directly to school staff, focussing on staff mental health and wellbeing.
- Assess psychological requirements and identify appropriate responses and interventions to support the mental health and wellbeing of identified school staff to assist in resolving professional concerns relating to student engagement and behaviour.
- Administer specialised psychosocial assessment of staff and identify tailored support options, providing immediate and proactive support and guidance through a range of responses.
- Engage in proactive identification of both physical and psychosocial safety hazards arising from student engagement and behaviour for identified school staff, including identifying needs and participating in the referral and planning of services for school staff to access regional and central supports.
- Undertake individual, as well as group, counselling and therapeutic interventions and support identified staff and their school communities in responding to critical incidents and emergencies relating to student engagement and behaviour.
- Engage in evidence-based training and professional development related to supporting staff teaching students with behavioural support needs and complete continuing professional development activities in line with the Psychology Board of Australia registration standard.
- Develop and/or maintain appropriate data collection, confidential record keeping and reporting systems for individual staff in line with department procedures and policies.
- Support delivery and continual improvement of psychology services to staff by assisting in review of policies, operational standards and procedures, evaluating service provision and programs and providing advice and recommendations to the Senior Advisor, Psychology.
- Collaborate with the Senior Advisor, Psychology to monitor and report on performance and contribute to the research, development, implementation and evaluation of validated clinical practices, policies and protocols relating to the practice of psychology services.
- Prepare and present papers and reports relating to staff wellbeing in schools relating to student engagement and behaviour.
- Contribute to the promotion of system wide psychology services, processes and resources to support staff mental health and wellbeing relating to student engagement and behaviour and participate in teams and projects as required to achieve the department's Strategic Plan.
- Provide advice to senior leaders in the division related to the identification and management of identified workplace trends on staff wellbeing concerns associated with student behaviour.
- In exceptional, or critical, circumstances provide short term confidential counselling services, in accordance with qualifications, to employees who present with critical health issues needing rapid intervention and where there is no other support available.
- Assist emergency or critical responses where staff safety arising from student behaviour is a serious concern. The role of the Senior Organisational Wellbeing Consultant will be negotiated at the time of any critical incident as part of the response strategy but will be in accordance with the skills and qualifications of the consultant.
