Unify Recruitment are partnering with a well known Civil Construction business, who are seeking a Junior Estimator to join the business based out of Melbourne. Our client who operate across the East Coast of Australia, delivery complex and high quality construction projects, are fast becoming one of the most attractive clients in the market to work with.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 year experience in estimating or quantity surveying within infrastructure/industrial/building industry
  • Rail experience is preferable
  • Degree, Diploma in engineering, construction management, or trade or similar
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the broad range of Microsoft Office products, particularly excel and project
  • Ability to produce high quality work which meets client and business requirements
  • Ability to breakdown construction operations and designs into a logical sequence of activities and trades.
  • Be able to interpret tender documents, plans, finishes schedules and specifications
  • Experience in critically analysing subcontractor quotes, clarifications, and exclusions
  • Experience in estimating/measuring drawings and specifications using 1st principals consistent with project methodology
  • Experience in estimating software, such as Cubit, Buildsoft, Bartender, Estimate One, Procure-pro etc
  • Experience in dealing with suppliers, contractors and consultants to determine which of these vendors is best suited to various tender priced.

  • Preparation and submission of tenders and budget proposals for clients
  • Working closely with team members to ensure all tenders and proposals are delivered on time with level of detail and quality
  • Measuring bills of quantities accurately & concisely according to the Australian Standard of Measurement
  • Perform subcontractor analysis and comparisons of quotes
  • Visiting site to assess conditions to assess project methodology and get an overall understanding of the project
  • Visiting active sites to maintain an understanding of current construction methods
  • Preparing, managing and assessing quote requests from sub-contractors & suppliers
  • Cost estimating using first principles and estimating software
  • Analysing and communicating risks and opportunities to management
  • Handover successful tenders to PD/PM with full details and explanations
  • Assisting in project scope changes post tender
  • Analysing and communicating risks and opportunities to management during the tender review process
  • Carrying out pricing debrief on all projects
  • Reviewing project performance results and data, conducting elemental analysis of past projects to understand and gain historical data
  • Present tender review meetings to General Managers concisely, with all relevant information collated
  • Participate in Tender meetings, Bid Handover and Project start up review meetings
  • Interaction with the Projects delivery teams to ensure continuous improvement in tender information and development
  • Participate in continuing professional development training via attending courses, conventions, trade shows etc to improve on.
