Primary objective
The Workforce Support Officer is responsible for creating and maintaining the rosters throughout the Northern Territory for the Youth
Detention and Youth Outreach and Re-Engagement work units within the Youth Justice Division. The role contributes to the planning and
delivery of a variety of workforce support activities within the Youth Justice Division. This is achieved by providing operational and
administrative support within a Human Resource best practice framework. Responsibilities will encompass administrative support for
staff on Return-to-Work programs and the co-ordination of recruitment functions across the Youth Justice Division.
Context statement
The role is unique in that it combines knowledge of rostering, payroll, reporting, recruitment and workforce planning in the provision of
employment and workforce support. There is a requirement to interpret and apply legislation and policies that apply to staff undertaking
and managing the service delivery
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Compilation of compliant rostering that ensures effective coverage of staffing to meet the service requirement for Youth Detention
Centres in Darwin and Alice Springs, and the Youth Outreach and Re-engagement Teams throughout the Northern Territory.
- Processing of leave applications, including recreation, long service and personal leave, ensuring approval processes are complied with
and the recording of such is accurate and timely.
3. Provide administrative assistance to the business unit managers to undertake recruitment activities and associated functions.
- Ensure data processing and entry within the roster cycle is accurate and current.
- Interpretation of employment legislation relating to conditions of service and the provision of sound advice to employees and
management on such matters.
- Analysis of comprehensive monthly, fortnightly and other reports, as required and providing cost effective recommendations to
management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated understanding of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act, conditions of service or ability to interpret and
apply legislation; or ability to quickly acquire.
2. Demonstrated experience in human resource activities and business support processes including recruitment, rostering and leave
entitlements.
3. A working knowledge and/or experience with high volume electronic rostering systems and interfacing payroll systems.
4. Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in a range of relevant computer software (such as word and excel) with the ability to
undertake high quality data entry and effective retrieval of information.
5. Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including, diplomacy, conflict resolution, negotiation and
influencing skills.
6. High level of self-management including ability to work with minimum supervision, use initiative and display sound professional ethics
of confidentiality and discretion.
Desirable
1. A working knowledge and/or experience with rostering a 24/7, 365-day business, electronic rostering systems and Personnel
Integrated Payroll System (PIPS) or ability to obtain.
2. Experience in Government accounting systems or equivalent.
