Christmas Island Phosphates is:

A subsidiary of Phosphate Resources Limited, which employs approximately 200 people across its businesses on the Island. We are the major employer on the Island, and the Island's history has resulted in a multi-cultural workforce. Our mature phosphate mining and export operation is governed by relevant Western Australian and Federal legislation, including the WA Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.

A new challenge in a unique location:

We are currently seeking an experienced WHS Advisor to join our WHS Support Services team to live and work on Christmas Island.

You will be carrying out the following tasks:

  • Conducting audits of operations as to compliance with Management Plans and regulatory compliance;
  • Maintaining Risk, Hazard and Incident databases;
  • Assisting in the development, maintenance and communication of Safety KPIs;
  • Providing coaching and advice to management and employees on legislative and regulatory requirements that will aim to improve safety practices; and
  • Monitoring systems and processes, identifying and prioritising improvement opportunities for recommendation to WHS Superintendent.

To be Successful in this role:

  • You will have several years' experience in a similar role in WHS, preferably in the Mining Sector;
  • WA "C" class manual driver's licence or equivalent;
  • Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or higher qualifications;
  • Senior First Aid Certificate;
  • Understanding of injury management and the workers' compensation system; and
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation, in particular the WA Work Health and Safety Act & Mines Regulations.
