About this role
We're looking for an experienced WHS Advisor who will be based on projects across the Pilbara region. Mallard Contracting is an Aboriginal-owned business with a focus on developing employment opportunities for Aboriginal people. Your understanding and passion for Aboriginal people is essential.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Ensure site procedures and risk assessments are adhered to
- Proven ability to work with Aboriginal people and culture
- Communicate (written/verbal) clearly and concisely at all levels including with the client
- Conduct Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification activities for all works
- Having conversations that reiterate required WHS behaviours
- Ensure audits and inspections are undertaken in accordance with contractual requirements
- Ensure all incidents are reported, recorded, escalated, and investigated as per Mallard requirements and in a timely manner
- Maintain site documentation relating all matters WHS.
Qualifications & experience
- Certificate IV or Diploma OHS/WHS
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable)
- Current Australian Driver's License
- Ability to pass a Pre-employment medical + DAS
- Use of Safety Management Software (MYOSH or similar)
- Knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework for Work Health and Safety (state and national)
- ICAM Investigation Trained
- Working Knowledge of Injury Management and return-to-work requirements
- Acting as the first point of contact for WHS queries and advice
- Well-developed Computer skills
- Passion for safety management
- Current First Aid and high-risk licences (advantageous).
- Knowledge of RTIO, BHP, FMG safety procedures, protocols (advantageous)
About you
- 2–5 years' experience as an HSE Advisor, preferably in civil construction.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data and information to improve WHS performance and standards
- Strong leadership skillset with ability to coach and mentor workgroups
- Problem-solving capabilities and an analytical mindset
- Excellent time management skills
Qualification and skillsets needed
- 2 years or more in a HSE role
- 1 year or more in Civil Construction industry
- Cert IV in HSE (Essential) or higher
- Cert IV in Training and Assessing (Preferred)
- A current and valid Western Australian drivers licence (Required)
- A current and valid Construction Card (White/Blue)
- Lead Investigator ICAM (Preferred)
- Lead Auditor certification in ISO45001 (Preferred)
- Unrestricted Australian working rights (Required)
What your day will look like
- Supporting the supervisors to implement strategies aimed at safety culture and managing hazard risks.
- Coaching and advising leaders to use WHS tools and processes in the field.
- Conducting field leadership activities in support of validating WHS processes.
- Reporting and assisting with the incident information collection for any Incident (ICAM) Investigations.
- Analysing data and trends for weak signals and take corrective actions.
- Delivering toolboxes and VOC training
