Caboolture, Queensland, Australia Kurbingui Youth Development Ltd Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About Us

Kurbingui Youth & Family Development is a proud Aboriginal-Controlled Community Organisation (ACCO) based on Turrbal Country in North Brisbane, Yuggera Country in South Brisbane and Gubbi Gubbi Country in Moreton Bay, with programs and services expanding across South East Queensland.

For over 20 years, we've been walking alongside our community – supporting families, young people and individuals through our many programs, which include: Family Services, Social & Emotional Wellbeing, Employment & Training, NDIS Support, Crisis Intervention Programs, Youth Justice & Bail Diversionary Programs, Family and Child Connect, and a wide range of cultural and community programs.

At Kurbingui, we believe that true impact happens when people feel seen, supported and empowered. We're not just building programs – we're building pathways, opportunities and stronger futures for our community. As we continue to grow, we remain grounded in culture, guided by our values, and driven by a vision of connection, empowerment and lasting change.

Kurbingui is recognised as a leading community organisation in Brisbane, trusted for our commitment to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families, young people and communities.

Our programs and services are built on cultural knowledge, respect and partnership. We are proud to be a respected and reliable voice in the community, and we continue to grow so that we can reach and support more people across Queensland.

Joining Kurbingui means becoming part of a movement that is strengthening culture, creating opportunity and making a difference every day.

About the Role

The Education Coordinator – Staying on Track Program plays a key role in helping young people reconnect with education and build pathways to future opportunities. This role is focused on designing, coordinating, and delivering a range of learning supports that are flexible, engaging, and culturally safe. You'll work one-on-one with young people, as well as through group programs, to provide practical support that strengthens their confidence, builds literacy and numeracy skills, and prepares them to re-engage with school, training, or vocational pathways.

The Education Coordinator also works alongside Youth Mentors, families, Elders, schools, and training providers to ensure young people have the wrap-around support they need to succeed. By embedding cultural connection and strengths-based practice into all activities, you'll help participants see education as a positive and empowering part of their reintegration journey.

This is a rewarding role where you'll not only support young people to achieve important milestones—such as completing study, gaining qualifications, or entering the workforce—but also contribute to their long-term success and wellbeing by opening doors to opportunity and growth.

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about helping young people see education as a pathway to confidence, opportunity, and brighter futures. You'll bring both practical teaching or youth education experience and the ability to inspire learners who may have faced disruption or challenges in their schooling journey.

You are organised, adaptable, and creative in your approach, able to design and deliver learning supports that meet young people where they are at—whether that's building literacy and numeracy, exploring vocational pathways, or preparing for further study or employment. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll be working closely with Youth Mentors, schools, training providers, and families to ensure every young person has the support they need to succeed.

Importantly, you'll demonstrate cultural awareness and a commitment to working in a way that is inclusive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed, particularly alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.

Essential
  • Experience working in education, youth engagement, or community-based learning support roles.
  • Strong understanding of education systems, RTOs, vocational training, and alternative pathways for at-risk young people.
  • Proven ability to deliver tailored educational planning, group facilitation, and case-based interventions that support learning outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, advocate, and build positive relationships with young people, families, and service partners.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, with an understanding of the barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and knowledge of relevant frameworks and best practice.
  • Confident in the use of IT, data management, and administration systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), case management systems, and digital platforms.
Desirable
  • Experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community settings, local schools, or with justice-involved young people.
  • Knowledge and application of trauma-informed education, restorative practice, and alternative learning models.
  • Familiarity with case management processes and digital reporting systems.

What we provide you

  • Competitive Salary + Super + Salary Sacrifice (Increase your take home pay with our Not-For-Profit Salary Sacrifice options)
  • Ongoing Professional Development Opportunities
