Are you looking for an exciting opportunity as a Diversional Therapist? We are looking for a new team member for our Lifestyle Team to provide activities and support programs for older people. Sunnymeade Park is a family owned Aged Care Facility located in Caboolture that provides and encourages a dynamic environment that fosters innovation and creative programs for the residents. **Scope of the Position**
**To assist in the promotion of social, physical and mental well - being of residents**
To plan, organise, conduct and evaluate recreational programs for the residents, taking into consideration their physical and mental condition.
**Reporting to**
Lifestyle Coordinator and Facility Manager.
**Qualifications**
- Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (or similar) is mandatory.
- NDIS Workers Screening Clearance or willingness to undertake is mandatory.
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake is mandatory.
- Training and experience with dementia is desirable.
- Proof of vaccination status consistent with public health orders is mandatory.
- Bus License is desirable but not mandatory.
**The Job - Major responsibilities of the Diversional Therapist**
- Plan, organise and conduct Diversional Therapy/recreational programs for the residents taking into consideration their interests and capabilities.
- Assess residents’ Diversional therapy programs.
- Promote social activity by the provision of organised group activities and entertainment.
- Promote physical and emotional rehabilitation by the encouragement and stimulation of creativity and participation.
- Fulfil the Diversional Therapist role in accordance with the values, vision and mission statement of Sunnymeade Park Aged Care Community
- Contribute to the assessment of residents; assist in the development of care plans and the classification of residents.
- Function as a member of the Diversional therapy team with a designated resident case load.
**Communication**
- Direct inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Communicate accurately and clearly with other staff, residents, families and significant others.
- Report accurate information regarding residents to other staff.
- Document information in the residents’ therapy / care record. This includes documentation relating to assessment, provision of therapy, validation of therapy and the evaluation of therapy delivered.
- Clarify any unclear instructions. Ensure that communication is accurate.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Respect the values, customs and spiritual beliefs of individuals and groups.
**Education**
- Participate in formal education sessions.
- Maintain personal knowledge base though accessing and participating in external education programs.
- Provide appropriate practical educational support for assistant nurses and other staff.

- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Recognize the unique roles of Diversional therapy team members.
- Manage and utilize material resources economically.
- Maintain a general understanding of the aged care system and classification of residents.
- Demonstrate skills in meeting the social, spiritual and recreational needs of elderly residents and maintain an up to date knowledge of contemporary therapy procedures for aged residents.
- Practice within a professional Code of Ethics.
- Develop and maintain a professional standard of knowledge and skills.
- Utilise appropriate interpersonal skills and communication techniques.

- An ability to organise all aspects of an excellent Diversional therapy department, such as individual and group activities, concerts, recreational and spiritual programs.
- A willingness to advance the provision of aged care in a residential setting.

- A commitment to participate in personal performance appraisal including the establishment and attainment of goals.
