About us

Manuka Medical Centre is a family-owned accredited general practice operating in picturesque Manuka for over 30 years. This well-established private billing practice in the heart of Canberra consists of a team of doctors, allied-health professionals, nurses and administrative staff who are dedicated and committed to the health and wellbeing of patients in Canberra and its surrounding areas. The practice is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8:30am to 1pm.

About the role

We're looking for a warm, intuitive and compassionate Senior Receptionist to grow with the practice and provide a high quality first point of contact for all staff and patients. In this role, you will play a key role in contributing to the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations.

This role is strategically created to develop the successful candidate/s into an administration leadership position.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting practitioners, nurse and practice manager with operational excellence
  • Leading the team when the Practice Manager is away (if hired as 2IC)
  • Oversee clinicians' appointment books, including booking and rescheduling
  • Welcoming and providing high quality service to patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Answering phone calls and handling patient queries
  • Supporting our healthcare professionals; including maintaining up-to-date relevant clinical records
  • Liaising and corresponding with external providers such as specialists, nursing homes, allied health professionals, pathology and imaging clinics
  • Training and supporting junior reception staff
  • Adhering to practice policies and procedures at all times
  • Administrative support and other ad hoc duties
  • Understanding Medicare billing requirements and MBS Item Numbers
  • Ensuring patient confidentiality at all times
  • Identifying opportunities for improvements and assisting with driving change

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of reception experience in a healthcare setting, general practice highly regarded (preferred)
  • Accomplished with medical software and online booking systems (Best Practice preferred not essential)
  • Proficient in Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, HICAPS and Private Health Insurance billing (preferred not essential)
  • Strong communication skills with a friendly and confident personality
  • Well-presented and exceptional commitment to patient care/service.
  • Previous experience and competency in using Microsoft Office products will be highly regarded
  • Highly organised, attention to detail and aptitude for multi-tasking
  • Commitment to personal development and learning
