Principal Cloud Engineer

You'll be instrumental in embedding Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevSecOps, and modern CI/CD practices using GitHub Enterprise, while guiding teams and stakeholders through the evolution to cloud-native platforms.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, reporting to the Cloud & Infrastructure Platform Manager, and is central to building a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud environment on Microsoft Azure.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement Azure cloud infrastructure aligned with the Well-Architected Framework.
• Build landing zones, network architecture, and core services.
• Lead full application workload migrations using the 5Rs approach.
• Automate infrastructure deployment using IaC (Bicep/Terraform).
• Establish GitHub Enterprise as the bank's DevSecOps platform.
• Build CI/CD pipelines and reusable infrastructure templates.
• Define automation standards to accelerate delivery.
• Implement cloud security controls and ensure compliance with APRA CPS 234, ISO 27001, Essential Eight, and other frameworks.
• Manage guardrails, RBAC, cost controls, and resource governance in Azure.
• Act as a cloud architecture SME across squads, app teams, and security.
• Provide technical guidance and embed shift-left security practices.
• Contribute to the cloud platform roadmap and service catalogue.
• Champion automation, reusable engineering patterns, and mentoring.

What You'll Bring

• 8+ years in IT infrastructure/cloud roles, with 3+ years in Azure.
• Deep hands-on experience with Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and hybrid architectures.
• Expertise in IaC (Bicep/Terraform), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), and DevSecOps.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity, and security.
• Proven experience in workload migrations and regulated environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications & Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (or in progress)
• Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
• ITIL v4 Foundation or equivalent
• HashiCorp Terraform Associate
• Agile/Scrum certification
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
