Job Description

Join NCS Australia in Brisbane as an experienced and client-facing Senior Data Modeller, and become part of a leading technology services firm dedicated to helping governments and enterprises create a better future. We are seeking a passionate data professional to take on a pivotal role within our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to act as the architect of our clients' data landscapes, where you will design, develop, and maintain the efficient, scalable data models that form the backbone of their data architecture and business intelligence initiatives. You will work directly with key stakeholders, translating complex business needs into elegant data solutions and making a tangible impact on major projects.

As a Senior Data Modeller, your primary responsibility will be to analyse business requirements and translate them into robust logical and physical data models. Your day-to-day will involve designing and optimising database structures, including tables, views, and relationships, to ensure maximum performance and scalability. You will be a champion for data quality and integrity, collaborating closely with clients and internal teams to capture precise data requirements and ensure solutions are perfectly aligned with business goals. A key part of your role will involve developing and maintaining comprehensive data dictionaries and metadata documentation, contributing to data governance frameworks, and providing expert guidance to development teams on data modelling best practices while staying current with emerging industry trends.

Qualifications

  • Consulting & Communication:

  • Solid consulting skills with a proven ability to engage clients, understand their business challenges, and manage stakeholder expectations effectively.

  • Experience in planning and running data modelling workshops to gather requirements and achieve consensus with both technical and business audiences.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, essential for articulating complex data concepts and working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical & Modelling Expertise:

  • Strong, in-depth knowledge of data modelling techniques and methodologies, including conceptual, logical, and physical modelling (e.g., 3NF, Dimensional/Star Schema, Data Vault).

  • Hands-on experience with industry-standard data modelling tools such as ER/Studio, Erwin, or similar enterprise-grade software.
  • Proficiency across a range of modern and traditional database management systems, including Databricks, Snowflake, SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.
  • Demonstrated experience in mapping complex source data to target data models, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and traceability.
  • Analytical & Delivery Experience:

  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with a talent for translating intricate business requirements into logical and effective data solutions.

  • Practical experience in data warehousing and business intelligence (BI) environments, with a clear understanding of how data models support reporting and analytics.
  • Familiarity with working in Agile methodologies, contributing to iterative development cycles and delivering value incrementally.
  • Experience within the health industry is highly desirable and will be looked upon favourably.
