Maritime Safety Queensland is seeking a permanent Manager for its spatial services team.
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) provides stewardship of the marine environment to ensure safe, clean seas in Queensland by managing the safe and environmentally sensitive movement of vessels in Queensland's waters.
The Spatial Services team, within the Port Operations and Vessel Traffic Services section, manages and develops a geographical information system (GIS), mobile GIS applications and cartographic services to advise and support the business of Maritime Safety Queensland.
As the Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:
• Lead and manage the spatial services team and work program.
• Lead and manage the delivery of a state-wide spatial information program
providing specialised cartographic services and GIS, including mobile GIS and web mapping services.
• Manage supporting spatial databases, including the acquisition of data, ensuring currency and the design of new databases as required.
• Provide expert spatial information, by way of technical and professional advice and products, to state-wide multi-disciplinary teams and management within
Maritime Safety Queensland to contribute to the successful and efficient delivery of services and projects with a spatial component.
• Set and maintain the standards and policies for maritime spatial information and cartography within Maritime Safety Queensland to ensure compliance with international charting and data specifications.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of nautical products, available both internally and publicly, such as maps and chartlets, Beacon to Beacon Guide maps and Open Data datasets.
• Provide GIS support and advice for emergency response to marine pollution and grounding incidents and natural disasters.
This role requires a degree in spatial sciences from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent, and/or qualifications and extensive experience in the field of GIS and maritime spatial science.
