Engineering and Technology branch (E&T) is TMR's centre of excellence for engineering expertise, delivering innovative and cost-effective design solutions. As part of E&T's Safer Roads Infrastructure (SRI) section, the Safer Roads (SR) team supports TMR's adoption of the Safe System approach by advancing road safety engineering practices. The team's responsibilities include managing governance frameworks, speed limit setting in complex environments and school zone safety programs; supporting regional road safety initiatives; trialling and evaluating innovative treatments and research; and analysing crash data to identify trends and priority investigation sites.

As Manager (Safer Roads), you play a vital role in improving road safety outcomes by providing professional engineering expertise for critical road safety initiatives.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Provide authoritative road safety engineering advice to senior management, optimising road infrastructure investment programs and embedding the principles of the Safe System approach.

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of road safety engineering practices, systems, and strategies to align with state and national objectives.

• Manage the delivery of the Safer Roads program of works, including projects under the Targeted Road Safety Program (TRSP), ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.

• Engage with key stakeholders to support the successful delivery of road safety initiatives and foster collaboration across government, industry, and community forums.

• Conduct applied research and maintain crash risk analysis and modelling tools to inform evidence-based decision-making and innovation in road safety.

• Prepare high-level executive briefing notes, technical reports, and policy updates to support strategic road safety objectives and influence state and national outcomes.

• Lead and support direct reports in a complex environment, fostering a culture of high performance and professional development.

• Provide specialist road safety technical advice within various forums to educate and inform key stakeholders.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions:

• A Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Civil Engineering or equivalence recognised by Engineers Australia is mandatory for appointment to the role.

• Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) - Civil - is mandatory for appointment to the role.

• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.

• Current holder of a C class driver's licence is mandatory - performing site visits and attending meetings outside of the office is part of the role.

Desirable:

• Qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., road safety, transport planning or postgraduate qualifications in civil engineering).

• Familiarity with crash risk analysis and modelling tools.

• Experience in trialling and evaluating innovative road safety treatments.
