Our team operates as an independent professional legal practice within the department and is comprised of the General Counsel, directors, legal officers and support staff. You will foster a culture of partnership, inspiring and developing your team to achieve desired outcomes for clients by providing solutions in a fast-paced environment. You will work with your team to seize opportunities for improvement, knowledge development, information sharing and build resilience to embrace challenges and adapt to change.

Your responsibilities

• Lead and oversee team management, work planning, coaching, mentoring and professional development initiatives to drive employee engagement and ensure resources are aligned to deliver government priorities.

• Lead and support your team to provide timely, high quality and strategic legal advice to the Minister, Director-General, Coordinator-General and other key decision makers on matters impacting the delivery of the department's priorities.

• Contribute to proactively identifying and managing current and emerging legal issues, priorities and risks affecting the department.

• Manage the provision of internal and external legal services to ensure value for money, quality and timeliness of work produced and ensuring continuous improvement and innovation in service delivery.

• Manage effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external clients and stakeholders.

• Contribute to strengthening the knowledge and capacity of managers and other departmental staff to work within the relevant legislative and regulatory framework.

• The successful applicant must be admitted, or qualify for admission, as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with demonstrated relevant experience.

• A minimum of 6 years post admission experience in relevant practice areas is preferred.
