Purpose of the Position

The Head of Learning and Teaching is responsible for leading the strategic and operational management of teaching, curriculum development, and learning quality across the Institute. This role oversees Senior Lecturers and Project Leads to ensure delivery of high-quality, industry-aligned, and compliant training programs. The Head of Learning and Teaching ensures that educational practices meet internal quality standards, comply with regulatory frameworks, and respond effectively to industry and stakeholder needs.

Duties

  • Lead, support, and manage the performance of Senior Lecturers and Project Leads to achieve excellence in teaching and learning delivery.
  • Foster a high-performance, student-centered teaching culture that reflects best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with academic leaders and stakeholders to ensure alignment between educational delivery and organisational strategy.
  • Ensure all teaching and learning practices meet relevant national regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., [ASQA, TEQSA, or other applicable regulatory bodies]).
  • Monitor and report on training quality, learner outcomes, and educator performance metrics.
  • Guide the design, development, and review of curriculum and training programs to ensure relevance, innovation, and alignment with industry standards.
  • Support projects lead in delivering curriculum and resource development initiatives on time and to specification.
  • Support when necessary the Director of VET to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain responsive and future-focused training solutions.
  • Promote ongoing professional development and instructional excellence across the teaching team.
  • Identify staff training needs and implement initiatives to enhance educator capabilities in pedagogy, technology, and compliance.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria

  1. Relevant tertiary qualification in education, training, or a related field.
  2. Demonstrated experience in leading academic teams or managing teaching and learning functions.
  3. Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and adult learning principles.
  4. In-depth understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the education and training sector.
  5. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  6. Proven ability to drive continuous improvement in teaching practices and learner outcomes.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian families, communities, and organisations.
  8. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
  9. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
  11. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
