About us
The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.
What we do is integral to the Government's decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer's money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.
We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.
We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.
The work area
These roles sit within the Economic Policy Directorate which is part of the Economic business unit. The Economic Policy directorate develops economic strategies and policies, advances economic reforms, drives better regulation across the State's public sector, and undertakes economic modelling and in-depth economic analysis (including cost-benefit analysis). Economic Policy also manages DTF's economic engagement program to gain valuable insights from industry and research organisations on emerging economic issues.

This is a pool process and can be used to fill permanent and fixed term vacancies that may arise within the next twelve (12) months.
There are currently three (3) permanent full-time roles available for immediate filling and listed below is a summary of the duties.
Economic Modeller
In this role, you will:
- Develop and review economic models
to support policy development. - Conduct data-driven research and analysis
and clearly present findings through reports, visualisations, and presentations. - Collaborate across government agencies and stakeholders
to provide expert guidance, support evidence-based decision-making.
Economic Analyst
In this role, you will:
- Support and lead cost-benefit analysis
by developing guidelines, reviewing modelling work, and advising on analytical techniques to evaluate policy proposals and business cases. - Conduct data-driven research and analysis
and clearly present findings through reports, visualisations, and presentations. - Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
to provide expert guidance and help build capability across the public sector.
Policy Analyst
In this role, you will:
- Develop economic briefings
by preparing high-quality, evidence-based advice on economic strategies, including economic diversification, and other key economic policies. - Collaborate and engage
with internal and external stakeholders to provide analysis, support DTF's internal engagement program, and further the Government's economic priorities. - Conduct research and analysis
through environmental scanning to identify economic developments and their implications to support DTF Executive and the Government.

Essential Role-Specific Requirements (ERSR)

Economic Modeller or Economic Analyst
- ERSR1
- Experience in economic data analysis and/or econometrics, economic modelling, cost-benefit analysis, welfare economics or statistical analysis.
- ERSR2
- Ability to translate research results into practical applications.
Policy Analyst
- ERSR1
- Demonstrated experience in an economic or policy work environment with the ability to understand and provide advice on economic policy issues.
