We're currently seeking two qualified Diesel Mechanics to join our workshop team at Newnham. These hands-on roles will see you maintaining, servicing, and repairing our diverse fleet of civil construction plant, machinery, and light vehicles — both in our workshop and out in the field.
The Role
We're currently seeking two qualified Diesel Mechanics to join our workshop team at Newnham. These hands-on roles will see you maintaining, servicing, and repairing our diverse fleet of civil construction plant, machinery, and light vehicles — both in our workshop and out in the field.
You'll play a key part in keeping our fleet running safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability. The positions offer variety, working on both scheduled servicing and urgent breakdown repairs across Tasmania. You'll also provide technical guidance to apprentices and work closely with operators to support project delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
- Service, repair, and maintain heavy plant, machinery, and light vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and auto-electrical faults.
- Carry out scheduled servicing and respond to breakdowns across Tasmania.
- Mentor apprentices and trades assistants, supporting their development.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent).
- Current driver's licence (minimum C Class).
- Construction Induction White Card.
- Experience working on heavy plant and equipment in civil construction, mining, or a similar environment.
- Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and auto-electrical systems.
Beneficial:
- Open HR driver's licence.
- High-Risk Work Licences (e.g., forklift, dogging, EWP).
- Welding/fabrication skills.
- Previous experience in rail maintenance.
