Your role
You'll be a part of our Projects & Development team in Perth. Our team advises on the leading mining, oil & gas and energy transactions in Australia, including for Rio Tinto, CITIC, ExxonMobil and Woodside. We routinely advise on high profile national and cross-border transactions and projects involving assets across Australia, Asia and Papua New Guinea.
As part of our team you will play an important role delivering client work on market-leading projects and transactions and working with us to identify and win new work opportunities. The key features of this role are:
- the opportunity to super-charge your professional development by working with market-leading energy and resources practitioners;
- the hands-on working style of the partners in this team;
- the challenging work you will experience;
- the variety of transactions and projects on which you can expect to get involved;
- the impressive clients and people with whom you will work with; and
- the cohesive and inclusive approach of the team you will join.
Your role will typically include advising on:
- acquisitions and divestments in the mining and oil & gas sectors;
- project development and expansions in the mining, oil & gas and energy sectors, including renewables transactions;
- regulatory matters involving mining and oil & gas operations and the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity and gas;
- joint ventures, JOAs, shareholders agreements and partnership structures;
- Minerals and gas sales and transportation agreements, including LNG sales agreements and trading; and
- power purchase agreements.
This is a (permanent, full-time) opportunity. At Allens we have a hybrid working structure, typically 60% in the office and 40% from home. We would be happy to discuss any other flexible working arrangements that best support you.
About you
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience in mining, oil & gas, or renewables, ideally at a top tier firm, international firm or boutique firm. We are open to candidates with a combination of private practice and in-house experience, and to lawyers returning to Australia after working as a lawyer overseas.
- An ability to work independently and effectively manage smaller matters and elements of larger matters.
- A strong team ethic - this aspect of our culture is of key importance to us.
- A willingness to develop others through mentoring, feedback and sharing experiences and networks.
- An interest in building an understanding of clients and developing effective working relationships with clients.
- A willingness to participate in business development activities, such as pitch documents, firm-wide pursuits, publications, attending industry events and hosting seminars.
