About Melanoma Institute Australia
Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing and curing melanoma through world-leading research, clinical care, and education.
Based at The Poche Centre in North Sydney, MIA brings together and supports mission directed activities by clinicians and scientists who work collaboratively to translate discoveries from the laboratory into improved treatment and survival outcomes. Its mission — zero deaths from melanoma this decade — drives MIAs commitment to advancing melanoma care whilst supporting prevention and early diagnosis.
The Role
The CEO will provide strategic leadership and business management oversight for MIA, enabling clinicians and scientists to pursue excellence in melanoma research, clinical care and education. The CEO will operate as a strategic partner with the Medical Director, the Senior Leadership Team, and Board to deliver on the organisation's mission.
This role requires someone with deep understanding of biomedical or medical research environments, strong operational capability, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary organisation with purpose and accountability. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of delivering strategic and visionary outcomes.
About You
You are an accomplished and respected leader with a strong foundation in medical research, or biomedical sciences, combined with proven operational and strategic management experience.
You Will Bring:
- Senior executive experience within a research, academic, or health organisation.
- Proven success in strategy, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong financial and operational management capability.
- A deep understanding of Australia's research and healthcare ecosystem, including experience working across government, academic, and industry partnerships.
- Tertiary qualification in biomedical, health, or related sciences is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of MIA's strategic and operational goals.
- Facilitate excellence across research, clinical, and administrative programs.
- Oversee governance, compliance, and financial performance.
- Build and strengthen relationships with universities, research partners, funders, and government.
- Support and develop MIA's people and culture.
- Secure major philanthropic support and stewarding relationships with high value donors, partners and funding bodies.
