Primary objective
Responsible for delivering, designing and developing training and other professional learning programs for all staff and carers of the
Department of Children and Families (DCF) and other providers to assist in the ongoing implementation of training and workforce
development strategies.
Context statement
The Professional Development and Training (PDT) team develops, delivers, and facilitates training programs using a range of delivery
methods to build capability in the skills and understanding needed by all DCF staff and community partners. This can include the Child
Protection Practice Framework, and priorities such as leadership development, coaching and use of IT systems. PDT collaborates with
teams across the department to understand their needs and advise on staff development. DCF is responsive to community needs, which
can include rapid change in a complex social, political, and organisational environment, and training reflects continuous improvement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver and coordinate contemporary workforce education, training and development for a dispersed and varied workforce to support
high standards of competency across the department.
2. Advise on training needs, find, and test innovative training programs, resources and activities for practitioners delivering child and
family wellbeing and safety programs using a continuous improvement cycle.
3. Implement trials and projects to improve training and capability building for staff and carers to improve client outcomes.
4. Partner with non-government organisations and other Agencies to assist in development, support and quality assurance of training or
professional learning to achieve agreed outcomes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to deliver, coordinate and facilitate training and other professional development activities in a child and family welfare
environment.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop and advise on education/training programs, resources or activities.
3. Sound knowledge and experience of current legislation, policies, contemporary practice frameworks and trends in a child and family
welfare environment.
4. Sound understanding of the complexities of diverse cultures and their relationship to client outcomes including awareness and
understanding of Aboriginal culture and the NT context.
5. High level written, oral and interpersonal skills, including the ability to understand and address the needs of front-line teams.
6. Highly developed organisation and time management skills with the ability to maintain a professional manner in stressful situations.
7. Eligible for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association, the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the
Australian Psychological Society, or Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention AND Graduate Certificate in Community Services
Practice (Statutory Child Protection).
Desirable
1. Professional Development, Training or professional Coaching qualification.
