Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Due to an increased demand within our business, SYPAQ are seekinga Senior Infrastructure Engineer with at least five years demonstrated experience in internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environment. This role is with one of the largest Federal Government Departments in Canberra and offers a long-term contract with a potential start in November

Overview:

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Senior Gateway Engineer uses their in-depth knowledge of specific ICT Platforms to provide expert advice on the management and maintenance of those platforms. They work closely with key third party suppliers to ensure the provision of a robust gateway infrastructure capability for the business, and liaise with architecture and shared services areas to ensure the security of the day-to-day technical operations.

Duties may include some or all the following but not limited to:

• Design/evaluate/implement infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demand
• Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities
• Prepare, review and maintain documentation which may include design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, and support procedures
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, operational policy and procedures and change initiatives
• Participate in change management process and communicate the end-to-end implications of configuration changes
• Provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic advice to the senior executive
• Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert, and aid and mentorship to less experienced colleagues
• Undertake research on emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency.

Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

• At least five years demonstrated experience in the design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environment is essential.
• Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency in the design of services utilising F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems. Demonstrated experience in the design and deployment of network infrastructure including Cisco Data centre technologies like Cisco ACI, Cisco Routers, nexus switches, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
• Demonstrated experience with and/or detailed understanding of Palo Alto firewalls and IPS Solutions. Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) Solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services. Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation.
• Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of Australian Government information security
• policies, the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.
